It symbolizes two branches from a tree or the horns off a cow. The literal meaning of Fehu is 'cattle', which represents wealth. Why? Cause olden days the way you determined how much money you had was by how many cows you had. Your bills could be paid in cows, and each man could be bought and paid for with the big mooing oafs.

"Yes, Tobi did pick Isa, Five points! Can everyone draw Isa?" Putting Fehu back, she pulled out Isa from her bag and showed it. "Isa represents the immoble and pureness of ice. In the same way, Kenaz, or Kauno or Kaunan" she showed them the rune: "Means fire... Go Head, Draw them. No one picked Kenaz, but that's ok... I'm sure no one wanted to be engulfed by fire! See in Norse Mythology, fire and ice are very strong in all the stories. Even the myth of how the world was created has to do with Fire and Ice getting together."

"Qaz sure did, as did Evy in the second round, and Paris in the first. Five Points" She rummaged through her bag of runes and pulled the Sowilo one out. "Sowilo represents the sun, which symbolizes life. In Norse mythology the sun is a 'blazing disc' that is dragged through the sky in a chariot that is pulled by a great wolf. Grrrrr! Wolfs are awesome!"

"No she didn't, she chose Uruz that time." She said pulling the Uruz rune out. "See how it looks like an animal standing on it's legs looking up to the sky? That's how you draw it. It's cause it's the mighty auroch which was a big European Ox, which is now extinct. So this rune represents strength."

Then again, Professor Lupa always did have pretty awesome classes!
"Nope, the one he was flexing his muscles to, was Ihwaz, also spelled Eihwaz," she rummaged through her bag.
"And the one he drew after..." she rummagged somemore, "was Algiz."
"Draw them. Ihwaz is the Yew tree. A very strong, stirdy tree that says green in even in the winter. Some of our wands are made out of Yew. The best bows were made out of Yew and only given to the strongest of men." She bounces, "Algiz, instead depicts a person with arms upraised, like someone asking for the gods to protect and defend them... and that's what it means. Protection and defense."

"Nope. Abby picked Othala, Laguz and Berkana." She pulled all three out of her bag,

"See Othala, or othila means home... ancestral property. family and security," she nodded, "Laguz means water, flowing water than can heal and feed all life and Berkana or Berkano, represents the birch tree and the femminninness. It also means new growth and new birth."

"Nope... he didn't. Dommy picked Nauthiz." She said pulling the rune out. "Go on... draw it..." She said and smiled. "It means Need or Necessity. Nauthiz is a yearning of the soul which at the moment is unquenched."

Figures that a Claw would get the points though and put them even more in the lead...

Dagaz, ugh. He should have known.

But now it was apparently time to have a little guessing game and guess the rune that his classmates picked. Glancing around the room, Dom tried to set his sights on one that might be easy to guess.

But before he could guess, a little first year had mentioned his name and a rune that he definitely had NOT picked. Shaking his head, he sighed. "Nope I didn't pick that one," he tried his best to give an encouraging smile as his eyes set sight on someone finally.

Raising his hand, the fifth year spoke as he thought of a potential rune that his fellow prefect might have picked. "Did Anna pick the Algiz rune?"
"Oi! My Job! Not yours, I'm the professor. Not you. I'm wicked smart, you need to learn from me." She said defending her authority. "And you didn't get it right either..." she stuck her tongue out at Dommy. "Anna picked Hagalaz, Uruz and Nauthiz." She rummagged through her bag. "Ah here it is, Hagalaz.
"The wrath of nature! Ok, so Ragnarok is the Norse version of "Judgement Day", and when it comes, Fenrir the wolf will EAT the sun and make everything dark. Oooo Scary. Anyway, so the world gets destroyed and life starts all over again! Yay! Well... maybe not yay so much... NEXT!"

Hmmm. "Did Tobi pick the Hagalaz rune, Professor?" That was a complete shot in the dark, but ah well.
"No Evy, Tobi's runes were Thurisaz, Berkana and as Cel-lery said, Isa." She pulled Thurisaz out of her bag. "Thurisaz, means Thorn or Giant. In Norse mythology, the icky Frost Giants bore an eeeeevil son, they called Loki, god of mischief, whose sole mission in life was to torment mankind and THAT is what gave the other gods a purpose, to defend and protect. Thurisaz represents the sacrifice that one must make in order to make progress in life."

"No, party pooper. Miles picked Uruz." She stuck her tongue at him "Plymouth and Jane got Jera... Jera is two scythes see?" she showed the rune, "See... harvest has finally arrived cause that's what it means... jera... harvest."
