The person you love isn't about to go get herself into serious trouble." Clenching his jaw he looked around and noted Alexa with Syd and some other guy. He turned his gaze back to the woods and down at the ground. Finding another rock he kicked it hard into the trees and watched as it disappeared. With a backward glance over his shoulder, noting how everyone was busy and not paying attention, he headed toward the tree line.
As he reached the edge of the clearing he stopped and peered into the darkness. How easy it would be to just walk away, like he had so many times before. Run from his troubles. He closed his eyes and rubbed the back of his neck. How easy it would be yet it wouldn't solve anything. In fact it might make things worse. He tilted his head back and looked up at the sky and the canopy of branches above, watching as the clouds passed by. With a tired sigh he turned back around to face the camp and sat down, leaning against a tree next to a boulder. He watched the people move about the camp from where he was, all the while never fully taking his attention off his surroundings. After sitting for about five minutes his leg started to hurt and he reached into his pocket to pull out the box that had been in his pockets for months.
Looking at the small velvet box thoughtful he ran his fingers over it and looked up to find Alexa. She was still with the other two setting up chairs. For such a big person he found it funny that no one had noticed him yet. So easy. He leaned his side against the boulder and flipped the box open revealing a rather large diamond ring. Nothing special about it. He brought his legs closer to him and rested his elbows on his knees as he pulled the ring out and watched it sparkle in the sunlight. It would do no good now. About as much if he chucked it into the trees behind him. If anyone had told him even a week ago that Alexa and him would be like this now he wouldn't have believed him. Not in the slightest. Still holding the ring in his fingers he looked up to watch Alexa again and swallowed. And everything I touch disappears in the end... Placing the ring back in its box he sat for a few more minutes before standing up and slipping it back into his pocket. We'll make this easy then. For both of us. Pushing all his feelings deep within him, all emotions lost, his face formed it's usual nonchalant appearance and he headed for the lunch table, ignoring Alexa on his way.
Reaching the table he nodded at Rebecca and the guy she was with and inhaled with a slight smirk, "Now those smell better then sandwiches. What are they?" Watching Warren out of the corner of her eyes, Rebecca smiled at Kris and then turned to Warren as he approached "Well, I made wraps" she indicated the plate of wraps on the table "And Kris here, made kebabs" Rebecca grinned as she indicated the plate that was in front of her "Try some" she offered.
