Theme 24: Lumos


Sirius threw James a dirty look.

"Throw me some light, Moony, old boy," he said, deciding not to respond to James's comment.

The darkness curtailed vision and, for several seconds, all that could be seen was the faint outline of Remus, fumbling in his pockets for a wand that stubbornly refused to be found.

"Lumos."

An outburst of brightness scattered itself throughout the room. James, the first to spot the white button by the door, plunged forward to press it. Light-tube illumination flooded the place, and he stepped back to see, once more, how the Room of Requirement had arranged itself for his much awaited date with Lily.

"Well?" he asked impatiently, after several moments had elapsed, and neither Sirius nor Remus had spoken.

"It's - um, quite wonderful," Remus said, clearly untruthfully.

"Liar, liar, wand on fire," Sirius said, with a roll of the eyes. "It's sappy, Prongs, sappy."

"Is not," James insisted.

"What's with all the flowers, anyway?" Sirius continued critically. "I mean, this -"

It happened, as if in slow motion. Sirius reached towards the tall vase standing in the middle of the charmingly-set table-for-two, lost his balance, tripped and -
