“I can’t do it,” Diana moaned. She flicked her wand for the umpteenth time, but nothing happened to the cushions lining the floor of the classroom they were practicing in.

“You’re doing it wrong,” Bellatrix yawned. Seated at the room’s back, one leg over the other, she gave her wand a lazy flick. There was a flash of electricity, as her spell tore the cushion into dozens of tiny pieces.

“Impressive. Totally beyond a normal first year,” Diana said, eyes wide.

Evan, standing in the shadows by the half open door, could not help thinking so, too.
