Perhaps he hadn't thought this out all the way...
This was Ludo's number one thought aside from his constant muttering of,
"Not good...Not good...Not good."
He watched in desperation as the hexes and jinxes had no effect on Peeves. And as Ludo levitated the cauldron across the room, the undistracted poltergeist attempted to overturn the potion.
This would've been catastrophic had not he desided to throw new ingredients into the potion.

His attention turned to Qaz as she directed a draining charm at the cauldron. He was not sure as to if the charm had worked and the potion was gone...but Peeves (sorry,
Professor Peeves) was still in the classroom, and Ludo was sure he'd make mischeif...potion or no potion.
