Finally, a suitably empty compartment! Kiri heaved open the door with some difficulty and sat down heavily in one of the seats, made almost shapeless by generations of students' backsides. With the compartment's door closed again, the rumbling of the train lost some of it's volume, and Kiri spent a few moments just looking out of the window at the landscape that was whizzing past. She was on her way back to Hogwarts!

Her bag was lying on the floor, and Kiri bent down to pick it up. Most of her luggage was safely stowed away in the back of the train, of course, but the bag she'd wanted to take with her. It contained a few books as well as something to drink and, most importantly, her pygmy puff's cage. She pulled it out carefully - her parents had convinced her to put the 'puff into the cage so that she wouldn't lose it in the confusion that was Platform 9 3/4, but now she wanted to let it out again.
Tiny and pale yellow, the pygmy puff blinked confusedly in the light, but when Kiri opened the door of the cage and put her hand inside it, it squeaked. Kiri smiled as the fluffy hair tickled her hand, and, after removing a book and stuffing the cage back into her bag, she shoved her bag under her seat with her foot. She slid down a little to be more comfortable and opened her book, the pygmy puff rolling around on her stomach.
