"I asked this question for two reasons, one, because I wanted to get you thinking, and two, because no one has really answered it and it has bugged me since my 6th year at Hogwarts when I learned the spell. Personally, I think it may have something to do with the fact that there is both hydrogen and oxygen in the air as it is, and the spell simply causes the two to react in the air and produces water. Alex explained to the class as she walked around, glad they had come up with some interesting ideas.
