Mariel's confused look was now proof for Nancy's sanity. So this announcement really hadn't made any sense right? Weird...but she was going to find out what it was about pretty soon.
Waiting for Mariel to finish packing up Nancy had started to twirl a strand of her dark-blonde hair around her finger as she always did when she had no idea what else to do. "Okay, thanks." Black owl. Pandora. She had to remember those things. Maybe she should write them down? No, she was going to manage without that.
Should she go? Mariel obviously wasn't too sure what to do either so the two of them just stood there looking awkward. "Uhm..." Nancy finally said to break the uncomfortable silence between them. "So, what are you going to do now, Mariel?" She didn't look at her but over her shoulder towards the door behind her.
Mariel thought for a moment before responding to Nancy's question, then looked at her watch.
"Um.. we have a bit of time before Astronomy, do you want to go do something before class?" All Mariel had been planning on doing was studying, but if Nancy was up for it, they could do something more fun.
"It's a bit chilly out, but we could go see the Whomping Willow... Or my sister told me about some statue that used to conceal a secret passageway. She said that it's blocked off now, but maybe we could poke around there to see if we could open it back up," she said with a devious grin.
"Or maybe you have a better idea. What is there to do for fun around here?" Surely Nancy would know, she thought. Didn't she go to school here last year? Shifting her weight from one leg to the other, Mariel watched the students file out of the room as she waited for Nancy's response. They'd soon be the last ones in the class, they should get going soon.
