"Um... well..." Dominic began softly. Where was he supposed to start again? Ah well, the beginning was probably best... "I was out by the Acorn tree, about to start doing my charms homework, right? And then Seth came along and suggested we do it together... levitate each others' wands. But I still wanted to do acorns, as I planned anyway, since that was probably easier.. Seth went first."
The Hufflepuff sighed quietly, sneaking a glance up to check her expression first. "He missed my wand though and levitated ME into the air, but didn't stop there... He spun me around all dizzy like, until finally when he put me down, I threw up. And well, that brings me to my turn..."
"Levitating some acorns up without any problems, it was then that I got the best of me and well, sort of smacked him in the face with them. I hadn't meant to cause him a black eye, but just a little playful fun as he had with me..." Dominic finished, chewing slowly on his inner cheek.
As the corners of Macadrian's lips quivered, she bit onto her front lip to prevent herself from laughing at the boy's description of events. The mental image of the boy spinning around in midair was just too much to handle and the idea of watching acorns bounce off someone's face was quite entertaining. Fighting back her smile, Macadrian inquired,
"So, if you were not the only one involved, why is our prefect not here too? He did, afterall, make you sick. It seems to me that both of you should be punished or neither should be."
Macadrian thought over what type of punishment she could give these boys that would make them work together and sort out their differences. She explained,
"While I'm rather tempted to send you to the hospital ward to help clean out bedpans without magic, I'm going to instead request that you contact our lovely prefect with whom this incident occurred, and inform him that you two, together, need to request from the house elves in the kitchen if you can use the kitchen to bake cookies for me. Several dozen cookies. At least two dozen chocolate chip, one dozen peanut butter, two dozen sugar cookies..."
Macadrian then turned to Max and asked,
"What kind of cookies would you like? I'll include a couple dozen in their punishment." Quote:

Apparently satisfied, he held out his leg, indicating that she should take the letter.
Macadrian was distracted from her conversation with Dominic and Max by another owl, this one flying through her window. Something about this owl was very intense, almost as if he had a deeper connection with humans than most owls. As Macadrian accepted the letter from the snowy owl, she reached into the bottom drawer in her desk and retrieved an owl treat. Before feeding it to bird, she thought,
I wonder how much sugar is in one of these...
As she read the student's note, Macadrian smiled in understanding. She knew what it was like to say things that she may not have meant to let escape, nor wanted anyone to hear. But in the heat of the moment, sometimes things just came out. Picking up her quill, Professor Shackleton replied:

Dear Ms. Rider,
There is no need to apologize for anything included in your homework. The purpose of Arithmancy is to discover ourselves and our environment in the deepest and most complete spiritual sense. The fact that your homework served as an outlet to express some overwhelming emotions you may have been feeling at the time, means that you've connected with the numbers and they hold true for you. I have no intention of discussing the content of your homework with anyone else, and if you ever need someone to speak with, feel free to stop by my office.
Best wishes,
Professor Shackleton
