But the other three you mentioned do sound interesting, especially Potions. I'm really looking forward to that one."
Mariel looked up with interest as he mentioned his sister. "Have you visited her in the States? I've never been there. Actually this is the furthest I've been away from home." Not really homesick though. More of an observation.
She then gave him a knowing look, as if she were the expert on Quidditch. "Not that I have much experience, but from the tryouts I went to, it seems as if they retry the whole team every year. So the seeker this year, might not be the seeker next year." She shrugged. "You never know. Me, personally, I'd like to play chaser. Beater sounds fun too, although I'm not sure I'm built for that, but I think I like the idea of hitting things," she added with a bit of a smirk.
Did he just call her pretty? That was a bit unexpected. Although she figured that he was just trying to be nice after the whole weird girlfriend topic got started. Completely unnecessary, but she still loved compliments. "Oh, thanks. No, you didn't hurt my feelings at all," she said with slight surprise. "I'm not interested in you that way anyway. I'm really not looking for that kind of thing right now. I hope I'm not being too blunt. I don't mean to be rude." Which was true, this time. She did have a way with her blunt honesty that often came across as rude and often did not care one way or another, but for some reason she found that she could actually have a decent conversation with this boy and didn't want him upset with her again. "Actually that part of the conversation is a little silly and beginning to make me uncomfortable, so let's talk about something else... like Quidditch, school, or your hair."
Squinting her eyes, she gave Nathaniel a considering look. "I kinda like you in blue," she teased, "Shows a bit of Ravenclaw pride, yeah?" She had to stifle her giggles when she saw that he didn't find his condition all that amusing. "Maybe someone played a prank on you?" she offered. "Have you seen the nurse about it? Maybe she could help... or at least tell you what's going on there."
Nathaniel looked at her as she talked about classes.
"Oh I enjoy a nice challenge. I'm just useless at math. Do you have any idea when Potions is starting?" He enjoyed mixing things together to make new and interesting substances.
"Muggle Studies really isn't that hard. You just have to know the culture to a degree, and study on from there. But, I guess it helps to have muggles in your family in the first place."
He thought about how his mother was a muggle, and how he had gained much experience from having the best of both worlds in his blood and life. His sister had also married a muggle, which was what brought her to the States in the first place.
"Yes, we visit her often. I usually spend plenty of time there in the summer. Many times, we'll go travel the country, seeing landmarks of the US and such. It really is a beautiful country, despite its politics. But lets not get into that part of the conversation right now." Nathaniel giggled a little under his breath at the last statement.
"That's really the furthest I've been away from home, but I really am interested in traveling. Sophia and I have often talked about traveling the world some day, but who knows, we'll do it sooner. Our families have been neighbors for a long time, we grew up together. But all the while, we never knew about each other's wizarding families!! Silly, right?"
Switching up the subject a little, Nathaniel responded with
"Oh, yeah, being a beater sounds like a lot of fun. You could hit out your frustration with classes out on the field during practice or games! I can see you as a chaser, though. You seem diligent enough for the part."
Nathaniel said
"I don't mind the bluntness. As I mentioned before, Sophia and I really like each other. Nathaniel glanced in the window he was sitting near and did a double-take. He couldn't believe his own eyes, as he looked at his hair, jaw dropping, as it had gone from the small streak of the brilliant, pungent blue, to his entire scalp of hair turning that color.
What in the world!? Nathaniel thought to himself, as he brushed his hand through his hair.
What will Sophia think?? I'm sure she'll like it, although I'm not sure if I do or not. He wondered if it was a spell or charm one of the older students had looked up in a book and put upon him, he certainly didn't have any enemies to his knowledge.
"I'm not the only one seeing this, am I? It is all blue, isn't it?!" Nathaniel nearly yelled at Mariel.
