He was abruptly cut off when he looked up and saw Anna's expression. And then he noticed that she was looking straight at him. Le gasp, he had been caught! Anna swallowed nervously, wondering if for just a moment he'd regretted coming to her party. To be honest, she didn't quite know what to do. They hadn't spoken or even looked at one another with anything other than glares and eyerolls since the whole break-up. She swallowed again, this time because she felt a lump coming up in her throat.

When Cale popped out from behind the couch, Anna had to bite her bottom lip to keep from smiling.
Don't be so obvious, Greingoth. It wasn't that she didn't want to smile at him. It was just an awkward moment, and she didn't feel that a smile would be the most appropriate thing to do right now.
Just take it slowly...
"Thank you, Cale," she whispered, still in shock a little. She couldn't believe that their relationship had come to this. Her boyfriend, the person three days ago that she was closer to than anyone else in life, was now the person she felt the most awkward around. That along made her want to cry.
