They were at it again, he could he their screams from his bedroom. Draco sighed, burrowing deeper under the thick covers of his bed, trying to ignore the shouts.
“He cannot get away with this!”
The fight was about him, Draco realized bitterly. His father seemed to have a problem with whatever Draco did – or didn’t do. This time, he had come back for the summer for the third year in row second in his year again. It may not have been so painful had the witch who had beaten him in every exam (again) been a Muggleborn. No other than know-it-all Hermione Granger.
Loud stamping on the stairs told him Lucius had decided it was time to confront Draco about the situation – and punish him, too. Considering the last thing Draco wanted was to be sentenced to another does of his father’s Crucio, he readied his wand.
“Colloportus,” he whispered, and heard the lock on his door click shut. That would stop Lucius, at least long enough for Narcissa to reach him and try to reason with her husband.
Right then, Draco would have preferred to be anywhere but where he was – even in the company of Muggle-born Granger.
