ENJOYY: 10 Ophelia opened the door slowly and frowned at Miles. "Calm down. She's here."
"Calm down? CALM DOWN? My eight year old sister has disappeared from her bed and wondered off into the night to see her mother who ran off in the first place, and you're telling me to calm down???!" Miles whispered angrily, so not to wake other residents. Sylvia walked to the door slowly and looked up at Miles with an apologetic face.
"Home, now." He pointed towards the house, which wasn't in sight. Sylvia frowned and trudged out the door.
"Don't be mean to her. She's at a difficult stage."
"What? 8? Oh yeah, really difficult. All that playing and love from parents, must be tiring her out." Miles rolled his eyes and took Sylvia's hand. "Come on, let's go before dad wakes up." Miles turned around and dragged Sylvia in the direction of their home. Sylvia looked behind her and saw her mother still standing at the doorway. She waved at her and turned back round. She knew what was going to happen. She would miss her mum. Very much.
The next morning, Miles had gotten up extra early and had sat in the garden. He couldn't sleep. He missed Vannie like ... a hell of a lot, here was also the fact that he had met his mother again, and ALSO, Sylvia knew stuff before he did, like she had a feeling it was going to happen. Yeah right.
Only a few days until the end of summer anyway, it seemed like forever. He looked at his watch, as the minute hand moved ever so slightly. "Cone on! Stupid time .. goes so slowly." Miles mumbled to himself. Sylvia walked up behind him and put her little arms around his neck.
"You're up early." Miles turned his head slightly.
"So are you." Sylvia whispered and sat beside him. She took her hands away from her neck and started playing with grass. "I need to talk to you." She said, whilst looking down.
Miles blinked. "Where did all this talking come from?"
"Miles, I am being sewious." She pleaded in her little girl voice. She sounded so sweet when she was serious.
"Ok, new Sylvie.."
"Sylvia." She corrected him.
"..Sylvia, what's so serious?"
Sylvia sighed and looked up at him. "I haven't been vewy .. truthful." Miles ad forgotten that she couldn't talk properly, as she was only eight, although she was alright with long words.
"I have known about this for a long long time. And I think I should tell you, cos mummy said it will go away soon."
"What'll go away soon?"
"My gift, of seeingintothefuture." Sylvia mumbled the last part quickly. Miles frowned and stared at his little sister.
"Seeing ... into the ... future?" He asked dumbly.
"Yah huh." She nodded. "Watch." Sylvia closed her eyes tight shut for a minute. She opened her eyes slowly again as if failed.
"What?"
"It's stopped working." Miles sighed and shook his head.
"Sylvia, are you feeling alright?"
"... You don't believe me?" Sylvia looked like she was about to cry. Miles thought it was best if he said he did, even though he really didn't. He didn't want to see his little sister cry.
"Of course I dooo." Miles and stretched out his arms so Sylvia could hug him. She stood up and hugged her brother. "Mum had it too. She said when she goes, I become less .. seeing into the futurey." Sylvia mumbled into Miles' t-shirt.
"Anyway." Sylvia let go of Miles and wiped tiny tears from her face. "Why are you out her all by yourself?" Miles sighed and smiled. "I can't sleep. I keep having recurring dreams about Vannie, I just want to go back to school to see her." Sylvia nodded, she knew how this felt. She would always wish for school term to hurry up so Miles could go home, but it seemed like he wanted the complete opposite, to see her dearest Vannie. But what about Sylvia? Didn't he want to see her? His own sister?
"Aren't you going to miss ... me?" Sylvia spoke quietly. Miles turned his head towards Sylvia and his eyes widened. "Of course I'll miss you! What made you think I won't?" He chuckled softly and held her hand.
"You want to go back to school and leave me here with daddy." She mumbled. She hated being at home alone, and her meaning of alone was with 'daddy' but he counted as alone.
"Only to see Vannie. I wish I could both see you at the same time."
"You will" Sylvia beamed.
"I will?"
"When I come up to Hogwarts!"
"Oh." Miles made sure Sylvia didn't get too excited. "When you arrive, I'll be leaving." Sylvia stopped smiling and frowned. "Oh."
"Sorry."
Sylvia went into Miles' arms again.
"That ... seeing into the future stuff. Is it gunna come back? It freaked me out slightly."
"I hope not. It annoyed me." |
