The Decision

Cale was depressed. Again.

This time it was because he was no longer confused. This time, he knew who he had to choose. The choice was completely clear.

He missed her all the time. More than Pink Girl, he was sad to say. He found himself thinking about her every minute of every day. He got sweaty whenever she was near--no matter how gross that was he had to admit it. He was constantly trying to impress her. He wanted her to think he was cool. He had never tried this hard to impress anyone in his life.

And of course, stupid embarrassing things kept happening whenever he tried to do that. Like, his hand getting tangled in his curls when he tried to run a hand through his hair. To look all cool and attractive. He just ended up looking clumsy and stupid, as usual.

She was complicated. Half of the things he loved about her, he hated. Like her bossiness. Cale did not deal well with bossiness. He had to deal with it from his mum, fellow Gryffindor's and now his charming step sister Ezra, and he didn't like dealing with it from Little Miss Prefect either. But at the same time, he liked that she stood up to him. It showed that she was tough.

He could do without the punching though. But at the same time, that was cute too. Cute and painful. The worst combination.

Anyways, despite the fact that he was NOT looking forward to breaking one girl's heart, he was also a teensy bit excited. Because he had had a revealation.

It happened in the common room, when some guy had asked him about Little Miss Prefect. He eventually started talking about how she had told him she liked one guy who only looked at her as a friend, and eventually it dawned on him. Eventually. It had taken him a while. Poor Shel and Jason had been about to slug him if he hadn't finally caught on.

Little Miss Prefect liked him.

After he had realized it, he actually kind of judged himself for not figuring it out sooner. Hello, she had named her flipping HORSE after him in class! Plus, there were all those little things, like accidently saying "kissing" instead of "kidding" one time. Kissing her palm and then placing it on his shoulder to make him feel better. All of it added up.

Oh, and then, of course, he was pretty certain she had written his name on school property.

Someone wrote "I <3 Cale" on the bulletin board in the broomshed. And Professor Vindictus found it. And totally called him out on it. It was obviously talking about him, since someone had written it in gold and red ink. He had hoped for a tiny second they were talking about the other Cale, the Ravenclaw prefect.

He wanted to crawl into a ball and die. Once the Professor had pointed that out, his face turned into a tomato. Shel would NEVER let him live this down.

Anyways, he was quite sure it was her. Unless he had some other fangirl he didn't know about.

Now, he was kind of nervous to see her. He didn't know how he would be able to act around her. He was certain he'd get all nervous and then do something really stupid, like trip over his own two feet and knock over a candy display in Honeydukes or something. With his luck, the display would fall into another display, and it would be like a chain reaction and he'd destroy the whole store.

Yes, Mr. Newell has quite the imagination.
