His attention was drawn towards Apha who looked a little flustered in her lateness. He returned her sheepish smile with a warm one – thank Merlin there was another MLES employee here. He winked at her before turning back to the young woman he was currently attending to at the checkpoint.
She looked at Nathan, having noted the exchange between he and Jake. She rolled her eyes, half-smiling at Nathan.
'He's a little . . . unfeeling, at times,' she explained.
'It takes a while for ze barriers to fall - or, zey used to after a while.'
She shrugged, not looking back at the man she knew was standing there, instead glancing around, before frowning.
'Where are ze others?' she asked, meaning the other MLES employees.
