Looking back towards the Eyelop's, Heathcliff could see his mother busily paying the shop-keep for accessories and food to go with his brand-spankin' new owl. And, what an owl! She was a beaute! And, Heathcliff could not help but admire her, holding up her cage with as much strength as his skinny little arms could manage and peering into it to get a good gander. He could resist it no longer. And, here is where the trouble started.
Heathcliff peered back one more time to see his mother still busy with the Eyelop's shop-keeper and unhinged the lock which held the owl's cage closed, freeing "Cecilia" from her gilded prison with a broad smile. It was his first school shopping trip ever and in his excitement, he was determined to enjoy it to the fullest and show off his new acquired objects, especially his owl. Who cared if she escaped...she wouldn't, of course! He was certain she liked him and he had the drop on her anyhow. Oh, happiest of happinesses! He placed Cecilia on his shoulder and stood there for a moment, the perfect picture of 'happy child', glowing with excitement and smiling up a storm.

Little did Ryan know that his giant grey owl's cage had opened, and the owl flew off into the distance, looking for prey. A small child would have to suffice, since it would be too hard to find a rat in all the hubbub.
But, the smiles and excitement didn't last long. In fact, it only lasted about as long as it took Cecilia to grap around the small boys skinny shoulder and begin flapping her wings, which, in turn, attracted another nearby owl. Seeing that one owl obviously had a snack too big for her to finish on her own, the new owl demonstrated the awesome power of teamwork by reaching down and grappling Heathcliff's other shoulder and flapping his great grey wings. The combination of the two large owls' flapping wings created a strong gust of wind, and then there was lift-off as Heathcliff's small feet left the earth. The two owls flapped and flapped until they were soaring far off the ground, the skinny and truly
quite nervous Heathcliff in tow, trying not to look down, but unable to help it (his blank expression told of the volumes of confusion he was feeling). They headed straight for the sunset, like a couple of cowboys, carrying Heathcliff with them and disappeared into the wild blue yonder, never to be heard from again.
