Sirius grinned at James as the latter brandished his newest broomstick – a Constellation 760 – in front of his three best mates, his mind on the many possibilities this could lead them to.

“Thanks,” James said, handing Sirius the broom so that it could be more closely examined, and expert opinion given on it. “It has a pretty strong braking charm, and mum sent an equipment kit along with it.” He rubbed his hands, excitedly. “Just think of all the possibilities, Padfoot.”

Sirius snickered. “I am,” he said, running a hand over the wooden surface. “This baby will be our most wonderful asset yet. I’m pretty sure Snivellus will agree.”

Remus heaved a sigh. “Guys! Not again. You know what happened the last time you tried to pull off such a stunt.”

“What?” Peter asked, stupidly.

“What?” James and Sirius chorused, innocently. James snickered. Sirius snickered, too. Remus tried hard to fight off a smile.

“You ended up in the Whomping Willow, that’s what,” he said. “And none of us, old Willow included, enjoyed the experience very much, I assure you. Our old brooms are still in pieces.”

“Which is exactly why we have new ones, now,” James said, grinning.
