Chapter 18

Another month passed and it was finally two weeks till Christmas! I had all the presents I was giving wrapped and ready, and I couldn’t wait.

It was a Saturday, exactly two weeks until Christmas Day, when at breakfast McGonagall announced a seventh year ball. It was to be help on Christmas Eve, and there was a seventh year King and Queen to be crowned.

“Only seventh years are allowed, but they may ask students older then fourth year, fifth year and up, to come with them. Dates are recommended, but of course, not required.” She told us. I looked up at Harry, and looked away when I saw he was still looking at McGonagall. Hermione looked at Ron, and did the same thing. We looked at each other, and then blushed.

“it starts at seven, and goes until who knows when.” She actually smiled. “That is all, you may now leave. Have a good Saturday!” she said and dismissed us. I looked again at Harry, this time he was looking at me. I smiled at him, and we both got up from the table.

“Would you like to take a walk with me around the grounds?” Harry asked. I nodded.

“Just let me go and grab my jacket, I’ll be right down.” I told him. He nodded.
I grabbed my plain black jacket and went back down stairs. Luckily for me, I ran into the First Year Annoying Committee, Jessica and Melissa.

“You again.” It was Melissa. I didn’t want to start with them, and I really didn’t want to be in a bad mood today, so I said simply.

“Yes, me again. Remember, I am a prefect, if I were you two, I would walk the other way and stop talking to me.” For once they could not think of a snappy comeback, and they actually turned the other way. I smiled and ran down the stairs to Harry, who was waiting just where he said he would be.

“Are you ready?” he asked. I nodded. “Alright then. Where do you want to go?” he asked.

“I don’t care, anywhere.” I told him. He nodded and we walked out the doors.
We walked around to the Whomping Willow, and sat down by it.

“Gin, do you want to come to the dance with me?” Harry asked.

“Of course Harry.” I told him. He smiled and kissed my hair. I stared up at the Willow, was going to say something, but decided not to.

“Doesn’t this remind you of Sirius?” Harry asked, as if reading my mind.

“Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. And Lupin, it makes me think of him too.”

“And mum and dad. That’s what I think about the most. Gin, if I tell you something top secret, will you promise not to tell anyone?” he asked. I nodded and looked at him.

“Of course Harry. What is it?” I asked.

“Well, I know where two Horcruxes are.” He replied. I nodded slowly.

“So you’re leaving.” I said simply. He knew it wasn’t a question.

“I’ll leave Christmas night. I want to be here for the dance and for the Christmas celebration. I’ll leave right after dinner.” He told me.

“I guess you have to do this. I can’t stop you.” I muttered.

“No, but when I do, this will end everything. Once I get every horcrux, I will be able to defeat Voldemort.”

“I guess I can’t stop you. At least you will be here for Christmas.” I sighed.

“I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” He replied. I smiled and reached up to kiss
his cheek.

“Wake up Ginny! It’s Christmas Eve!” I woke with a start to find Hermione sitting on my bed. I sat bolt upright.

“What are we waiting for then?” I teased, “We got to get breakfast so we can get ready, don’t we?” I asked. Hermione rolled her eyes and got off my bed.

“Hurry up then, get dressed. We’ll need as much time as we can get for you.” She teased. I playfully punched her on the arm and hurried into jeans and a T-
shirt.

“Alrighty lets go.” I said. We left the Dormitory, and walked out of the portrait whole.

We walked down to the Great Hall and sat at the table by Ron and Harry.

“Good morning ladies.” Harry said cheerfully. I smiled slightly, knowing that he was leaving the next day, and quite possibly, not to be negative, not coming back. I shook my head, as if to shake out those thoughts, and put food onto my plate.

“Good morning Harry. Ron.” I said.

“Oodmoineeowdeep?” he asked.

“Ronald! You should stop chewing with your mouth so full. It really is disgusting!” Hermione scolded. He swallowed, with great difficulty, and glared at her.

“I said, good morning Ginny, how did you sleep?” He repeated.

“I guess it was good. Nothing special.” I said, not wanting to tell them about the particularly frightening dream I had, in which Harry was confronted by Voldemort. I shuddered involuntarily.

After finishing my breakfast, I stood up, Hermione followed.

“I am so excited!” Hermione whispered.

“I know me too!” I whispered back.

“If you want we can get ready in the Head’s bathroom, I know the password, I just never use it.” She told me. I smiled and nodded.

We trudged back up to common room and grabbed our stuff, and then we trudged back down to the Head’s bath room.

After four hours of hair and make-up, we finally decided it was time for clothes. Luckily we were wearing zip-up dresses, so our hair wouldn’t get messed up.

“HERMIONE!” I called from inside the bathroom. She was standing outside in her dress, waiting for me to get ready. She came in the door to see me struggling with the zipper on mine. She laughed out loud and came to my rescue.

“That’s a beautiful dress.” She told me. I had to agree, but silently. My dress was about knee-length, it was a dark purple color, and it had silver glitter around the skirt. When I twirled, it fanned out around me. I smiled at Hermione, and looked at her dress. It was a light pink, with a white over coat.

“Now for the shoes.” Hermione muttered. I smiled at her dark tone, and picked up her shoes and handed them to her. They were white heels with straps. She smiled at me and put them on. I put my own on; silver heels.

After another hour of “Are you sure I look perfect? Hermione! I think I have a flyaway! Quick! Hairspray!” and “AH! I can’t this shoe strap tied! Ginny! Help me before I trip!”

We were finally ready to go, and it was a good thing too, the dance started at 7 and it was already 6:50.

“Come on Hermione, I told Harry to meet us there at seven! We have to walk down stairs in these shoes, so it might be better if we take our time.” I said with a slight giggle. She laughed and we left the bathroom.

We walked down the endless flights of stairs and finally we were to the entrance hall. It was filled with seventh years, and I scanned the crowd for Harry. When I finally found him, he and Ron were staring up at me and Hermione with funny looks on their faces.

Harry walked up the stairs and I grabbed his arm.

“You look wonderful.” He whispered in my ear making me shiver.

“Thanks.” I whispered, lost for words. Ron scrambled up to Hermione and, less gracefully then Harry, did the same. I smiled when I looked up and saw Harry rolling his eyes.

“Well, ladies, lets go.” Harry said leading me down to the Great Hall’s doors.
After about five minutes, the doors opened on their own. When I walked in and looked around, I was in awe.

It looked just like it did at the Yule Ball, only better. Not only was the whole hall decorated in ice, with seven huge Christmas trees, but the icicles over the staff table spelt out “Happy Christmas!” it was magnificent. I turned to see Harry smiling at me.

“Like it?” he asked. I nodded.

“Well, let’s go get a table.” Ron demanded walking up to me and Harry, pulling Hermione along with him.

“You and your stomach.” I muttered as Harry and I followed him to an empty circular table with a pearly white table cloth on it.

“Punch anyone?” Harry asked. I nodded, so did Hermione.

“Come help me with them.” Harry said to Ron. They both got up from the table and went over to the table with the refreshments on it.

“So, are you having fun?” Hermione asked.

“It hasn’t started yet.” I told her. As soon as I said those words, Professor McGonagall stood up.

“Welcome all seventh years’ and dates to the Seventh year Christmas ball. The music tonight will be live by the weird sisters, singing songs from almost anyone. Have a great time!” with that she sat back down at the staff table. The band started playing.

“Good Evening my fair maiden.” A deep voice said from behind me. I jumped and turned around in my chair. It was only Harry.

“Yes…?” I asked.

“Would you like to dance?” he asked in the same voice. I giggled.

“Of course!” I exclaimed. Harry pulled out my chair for me and helped me up.

“You’re such a gentleman!” I teased. He smiled and led me over to the dance floor. Four other couples joined us, each one seventh years, and the band started playing a slow song. Harry and I danced. It was wonderful.
After three songs of dancing, we finally took a break. We walked over to where Hermione and Ron were, and Harry pulled my chair out for me, again. I smiled and he went off to get more punch. Ron followed him.

“You look happy.” Hermione said cheerfully. I smiled at her.

“Yeah, Harry’s a great dancer.” I told her. She rolled her eyes.

“Ron hasn’t even asked you to dance yet?” I guessed. She nodded.

“Don’t worry.” I assured her, “he’s just shy. Give him a little and I’m sure he will.” She smiled gratefully at me as the boys came back.

“Hermionewouldyouliketodancewithme?” Ron asked. Her head snapped up from looking at the table.

“What?” she asked, a smile playing onto her lips.

“I said Hermione, would you liketodancewithme?” he asked again. Now Hermione was smiling.

“Come again.”

“Would…you…like…to…dance…with…me…?” he asked slowly and clearly, his ears turning red.

“Of course Ron!” she said jumping off her chair as if it were on fire. I smiled as she went off with my brother to the dance floor. Harry got up from his chair and moved it closer to mine. I smiled and leaned back on him while he watched his to best friends dance together. I looked up at him and smiled.

“Do you want to go for a walk?” Harry asked. I nodded and got up.
We walked out the Great Hall unnoticed, and we walked out to the pumpkin patch. We sat down on a big and particularly sturdy pumpkin, and Harry put his arm around me. We sat and looked at the stars for a little, not saying anything but feeling content just the same.

“Harry, thanks for asking me to the dance, I- Harry? Harry! Harry, what’s wrong?” I asked. He was doubled up, holding onto his lightning bolt scar and wincing. I knew what that meant. He was seeing something.

Sorry for the cliffie, more soon to come after I post on Everything Happens for a Reason. Thanks for reading!
