He laughed when Evangeline held up his tie which was dripping in the chocolate malt stuff. “Um – No problem.” He shrugged when she apologised again and coughed nervously when he noticed her cheeks had turned pink. He couldn’t fail to notice them, not even in this dim light. “If – If anything you’ve done me a favour…” He chuckled nervously, playing with the straw in his glass. “I’m sure I’ll wear it more often now it smells and tastes like chocolate.. I’ll just have to learn how to tie it up without killing myself now.”
Evangeline bit her lip, even though Clifford said it was okay, she still felt bad about getting chocolate all over his tie. And embarrassed. It seemed her cheeks didn’t want to go back to their usual pale colour tonight.
She placed his tie on the table, since she sure didn’t want to get chocolate on her skirt, and surely Clifford didn’t want the same to happen to his new leather jacket. Well, it was Clifford so he probably wanted. She chuckled timidly at his words, pouring herself some chocolate malt, this time making sure it was on her glass and not on the table. “Then I suppose you don’t want me to get it clean.” She said, turning back to face him.
She eyed him for a second before chuckling. “You know I think I’m perfectly capable of pouring chocolate malt over you. So if you want, just ask.” She finished with a small wink in his direction. She regretted the words the minute they left her mouth. She was not supposed to be like this infront of him. Not after everything he had told her; she was regaining her hope, but what if the other Clifford came back? She quickly turned away from him, to watch some older boy eating cookies. Stupid redden cheeks… Clifford should be used to them by now but they still embarrassed her! |
