600 Years of Diagon Alley CelebrationJoin us this summer in celebrating 600 years of Diagon Alley with a special festival hosted by the Alley's shopkeepers.
Is that a glint of light reaching you from the corner of your eye? Anything's possible, after all, seeing as it is a Wizarding celebration.
Upon investigation, however, the flash of light comes from a relatively mundane source: a small mirror hung near the entrance to a maze with faint music emanating from within, it seems. For in fact, that is what this is, an expansive mirror maze, looping around to the point it is nearly impossible to see where the next turn may be.
Not only that, but who knows what obstacles may be inside to impede your forward movement. Or sideways movement. Whichever direction you turn, you may find your way ahead open, or you may find yourself facing a trick bookshelf, insults from your own reflection, or even just a copy of the Monster Book of Monsters set loose.
No matter what, just remember it's all in good fun.
SPOILER!!: lists of potential obstacles you may encounter, you choose!
Insulting mirror - your own reflection insults you
Farseeing mirror - shows you a random, far off place
Two-way mirror - communicate with a stranger (on the other side of the maze)
Back-up mirror - only shows the back of your head
Mini avalanche of books - climb over the books safely
Trick bookcase - find the correct book to move the bookcase, or to reveal a secret passageway
Runaway copy of the Monster Book of Monsters - "a vicious guide to monstrous creatures"
OOC: You can pick which of these your character encounters, or even create your own obstacle! The obstacles are all designed to be harmless and light - so no crazy ideas, please.
This booth is manned by Elizabeth Chambers (SilverTiger) and Tabatha Krauss (Sunflower).

Hopefully.
Jasper had already found her, but he was just a kid. She didn't wanna burden him with reality or anything.
Was he asking something? Oh yeah. Are you okay? That was an easy one to answer. "No. I hate mirrors. I am... surrounded by mirrors. This appears to be a problem." A really BIG problem. A REALLY BIG PROBLEM!!! Why did she ask for time alone anyway? She shouldn't have done that... asked for time alone... came here... mirrors were bad... bad mirrors...
"So anyway, how are you?"
"Oh," he replied as if he understood completely. Jasper liked mirrors and they liked him. What was there to hate about them? Weird. "So ... do you want to sit here or .... get out?" Because if she hated them so much, sitting here probably wasn't the right way to go. #ProblemSolving101.
He didn't seem phased at all with the turn of conversation and offered an easy Jasper smile in reply to the girl's question. "I'm awesome! Have you tried zap-a-snitch yet? I was gonna go try it," he offered in explanation.

Oh, yeah. "I'm pretty sure that we can." She said with a smile, reaching for his hand. They definitely would be able to exit the maze soon enough but also, kind of hoped that it would be a little challenging and fun. "Come on." She said, entering the maze.
"I'm glad you came." They were both very agreeable and complimentary today, it seemed, but they couldn't argue for fun all the time. And it really was nice to see her again. It was easy to get used to having his friends around for most of the year, and it only added to that off feeling of being home.
Luke accepted her hand into his and followed her into the maze.
Whoa. The effect of all the mirrors reflecting each other and everything else was really bizarre. And when he looked down a corner...there was a mysterious bookcase further down there, blocking the way. Was there a way to get around or through it? Hmm. "Should we try that way?" he asked. "Or see if there's another route?"

It had not yet occurred to him that carrying around kleenex at age 14 was a weird thing to do. But it had actually come in handy so many times for situations similar to this, that he wouldn't have even thought to change the habit. He nodded in acknowledgement at her thanks. It was weird how the mirrors were so in sync with ones emotions and insecurities. And not for the first time, Evan really wished there was an easier way to understand why magic worked in the ways that it did. But it often didn't have any rhyme or reason that he could notice so answers still escaped him. "I don't know... I guess it would make sense though that there are some that can hone on our insecurities, when mirrors like the Mirror of Erised exist which shows the things we most want." Wouldn't it be interesting to have them side by side, to see which emotion could outlast the other?
"Sorry." Even if she said it was okay, he still felt bad. He'd certainly make sure he knew it now though should he ever run into her again. "Nice to officially make your acquaintance Isabella. Do you like being called Bella?" He figured it was worth confirming, given how everyone called Mamie 'Mamie' but now she wanted to be Margaret. "Are you excited for the upcoming term?" Another year was exciting, if also still perhaps a bit anxiety inducing. He pulled her up from her spot on the ground, letting go once she was settled and steady on her feet again. "It really is cool. I had no idea it's been so long!" But why would he have? He didn't actually know much about DA at all, except the layout by now.
He nodded and gave a small smile at the offer to proceed, taking the lead so that if they did encounter anymore mirrors with the desire to tease, it would be him instead of her. "Let's do it!" Evan started forward, tentatively reaching a hand out to make sure he wasn't staring at a reflection this time and wouldn't run into something like previously. "Did you come with anyone today?"
This was creepy, really creepy. Bella thought to herself as she let her eyes wander around them in the maze. Refocusing on what Evan was saying she visibly shivered. "I guess things like mirrors that can feel my emotions and attack my weak spots make me uncomfortable and jumpy.” Still a little wobbly on her feet Bella asked "Would you like to own a Mirror of Erised Evan?" She didn’t. Her parents had taught her that trusting magical objects was unwise and having a mirror that showed her innermost wants and desires could only lead to trouble. "Have you only run into 'nice' mirrors in the maze so far?" Bella wondered as she considered which way they should go in the maze next. Forward was obvious, but right or left?
Smiling over at Evan she answered. "Likewise Evan. I’m okay with being called both, but most call me Bella so you can pick what you call me." When she was in trouble at home, her mother always spelled out her whole full name and it would feel weird if Evan did that too but he didn’t know what her middle name was of course. Nodding she explained. "It is exciting to get to take elective classes like muggle studies and care of magical creatures. I’ve been waiting to try those classes that everyone always talks about since my first years, and seeing new professors is always fun."
Starting to walk a few steps forwards since her balance was finally back she threw the question back. "So how about you, are you excited for the new term?" Walking beside Evan as they walked on ahead Bella shook her head. "I came alone. Did you come with your sister Lisa?" Before she could say anything else they turned a corner in the maze and was met by the sight of BOOKS which caused Bella to cry out as she tackled Evan to the side. "Watch out Evan!" as they looked on a mini avalanche of books came tumbling towards them.
"I've been on muggle ones before." Blake said as he was entering. "I assume magical ones are a lot more intense with sillier gags." Which, sounded absolutely like a good time.
He was immediately disappointed with the fact the very first mirror looked like just a normal muggle one. But he did poke it just to make sure.
"Really? Are the muggle ones fun?" Karleigh asked as she followed Blake inside, her eyes immediately searching the mirrors that surrounded them. "I hope so," she agreed with his speculation on the magical twist of it. "Magic always makes things more fun. I bet this will be really cool."
She peeked over his shoulder as he stopped in front of a mirror that just looked.. plain. "Does it open?" she asked as he poked it, then she pushed lightly on the mirror herself. Maybe not? "Let's try going around it," she suggested, making a left only to be greeted with the reflection of the back of her head. Weird!

He didn't blame her for them making her uncomfortable and jumpy. He didn't like anything that could see any of his thoughts. Occlumens made him uncomfortable too. Not that he had MET any of them, but the very IDEA made him quite uncomfortable. He wanted to eventually learn Legilimens to combat that just for his own peace of mind but considering he was only a fourth year... this had yet to occur for him. "I wouldn't. The idea of the Mirror of Erised is really cool but... just like the mean ones would make me uncomfortable, so would a mirror that knows what I want." Especially since HE didn't know what he wanted. Maybe he'd see nothing? Maybe he'd just see his siblings happy? Who knew. "Would you want one?" Nice mirrors? He shook his head. "There are a couple normal ones and the ones that show the back of your head at least aren't NOT nice?" Which was a good start he supposed. "Let's go right."
He didn't know if that was the correct way, but worth a shot.
"Bella it is then." He gave a small smile. If she liked both, but people usually used Bella, he imagined that was at least more comfortable. Even if he had known her middle name, he definitely wouldn't have been so weird as to try to use it in a full name setting. That was for families. Not that he had one of those himself anyways. "The elective classes are fun. It's too bad Schmoe isn't coming back though." He'd really quite miss his old Head of House. He'd been a really good Professor. Hopefully he liked the new Professor's as well.
He considered if he was excited or not, and decided that... oddly he was, so he nodded his head. "Yeah, I am. Fourth year is like the last year to get to relax a little bit before things get crazy with OWLs, picking classes for future career, and then NEWTs. The last three years seem like they go pretty quick so... I guess I'm hoping to enjoy this term." Make even more friends than the last and enjoy hanging out with them before life really started to get real. "Yeah, Lisa and our sister Maya. Do you know Lisa?" Seems like most people did.
He was not expecting the pile of books, nor the side tackle to avoid them, so he went down like a limp noodle when she hit. "Oof." Well.. at least the books hadn't hit them. Though he wondered if they were real or a figment of the imagination given the overall nature of the maze. "You okay?"

Blake nodded. "Yeah. They make you funny shapes depending on where you stand. It's good for a laugh." he explained.
He followed her around and peered at the back of his head in the reflection. "Definitely magic." he said fixing his hair. "Think they sell this somewhere?" Because it was convenient. For hair reasons.

"Oh that does sound fun!" And funny. "I wonder if they have those funny shape mirrors here too." Because even if that was a muggle type of mirror, Karleigh thought it would still fit right in here.
The one showing the back of their heads was just as crazy, she thought, and she stared at it a while before shifting her eyes to the reflection of the back of Blake's head. "Mm, probably," she said, considering the question. "Isn't there a mirror shop on Diagon Alley?" She wasn't sure she'd ever been in it, but she thought she'd at least passed it on her way to get school supplies.
Feeling around in front of her, she turned and turned a little more till she found an open passage. "This way!"

“Obviously I wanna leave, I just... can’t. It’s a maze. Of mirrors. And other nasty stuff.” Right on cue, one of those monster books started attacking(?) her. She was too lazy to look through her memory for how to deal with it, so she just threw it in the other direction. Byeeee.
“I played it with Lisa and my bodyguard. Guess who got it on their first try. It’s fun.” Or whatever. Nothing was fun. Nothing had meaning. Etc.
Ash watched the monster book come back to get her. Maybe it would eat her. Then she wouldn’t have to get out of this maze.

"Probably." Blake said with a nod. "It would make sense, right? Otherwise it's not really a fun house." Although... were the words fun house anywhere on this thing? He hadn't actually checked.
"Yeah. I just figured they only had mirrors that you use to call people."
He followed after her. "Nice one. I didn't even see this."
