“No need to apologise..” Clifford said slowly, eyeing Evangeline’s expression curiously. She seemed a little afraid. Afraid that her harmless teasing would upset him? Or just afraid of him altogether in general? He took a step back at the thought, he didn’t want to scare her. But he probably did these days, thanks to his own stupidity.
“Oh – Of course I’m not trying to get rid of you.” He said quickly. In fact, he was quite glad she wasn’t going to go searching for a dance partner. “I just thought … it’s a dance y’know … where people dance.” He had come for the food, and as he knew Evangeline didn’t really share his great love for food… “I just presumed you came here to dance that’s all. But I’d love it if you stayed!!” He blinked as the words escaped, it seemed they’d come out of their own accord. He’d have to have better control if he didn’t want Evangeline to run away.
