Default Can you forgive? A one shot- SA 13+

She watched him sitting alone on the hard marble stairs out side. Just reading. No body stopping to say even say “hi”. Everyone ignoring him, looking the opposite way to avoid conversation. She didn’t understand why he was sweet and funny.
As she watched him she felt a bubbly warmness build up inside of her. The kind of happiness that made her feel childish and want to smile and jump about. But she sat there and looked back at her book ad she tried to wipe his face from his memory.
“Minerva… MINERVA?”
She awoke from her day dream.
“You like Jeremy Potter don’t you,” said the light fluttery annoying voice directly behind her teasing her, revealing the tone that said that whole school would know in two hours.
“No, I do not like Jeremy,” Minerva said before she thought, perhaps a tad to loud causing several people to look up… including Jeremy. She didn’t know why she got so upset. Perhaps it was the hurt in his eyes or the thought of telling a lie as to protect herself from feeling embarrassed. She picked her book up and ran into the castle. As she reached the stairs she imagined Umbridge’s face tied up in that smug grin she so often used to show victory.
This defeat caused Minerva to sob out loud and start sprinting up the stairs again, launching herself, accidentally, right, into the book carrying arms of Professor Dumbledore.
“Sorry, professor,” she mumbled as even more tears rolled rapidly down her cheeks.

Even five hours later Jeremy still felt horrible. There was no doubt that they liked each other but… a passing owl dropped a small note right in his hand.

Can I fix what can’t be mended?
Can I win the losing battle?
Can you forgive a person who’s done you wrong?
I promise to do anything to earn your forgiveness.
I would swim across oceans
Walk to the ends of the earth…
Because I did not mean to harm you
I tried to keep strong but I just made myself venerable…
I tried to think of you but I got in the way…
Can I make things right?
Will you forgive what I done to you?
Can you forgive me?
Please, meet me in the astronomy tower.

Jeremy ran against the stream of students heading toward the great hall, up two flights of stairs and stopped before the door. He took a deep breath and turned the knob.

The end.
