Aw! Pity. Yes, we already know, specially the second years^^ And adding to what Greta said: Protego comes from Latin, it means 'to defend ' (pro-TAY-go) It's popular in dueling for its utility for deflecting Hexes or Curses and Jinxes.

*raise hand* I was planning to read it over in books for an answer but now I've the opportunity I'll ask you, professor: Can you deflect the Aveda Kedavra Curse with Stupefy? Because I heard you couldn't, because it was a too simple defensive spell for such a complex and powerful curse (- Mad-eye Moody GoF).
And if it isn't poweful enough, what spell can we use?
