Post Phoenix film profits in record time?

With $330 million worldwide in tickets sold, Order of the Phoenix appears to have already earned back it's $150 budget!

This is days ahead of the other films, with Goblet of Fire coming in second (which also had the same budget).

Phoenix opened at 4,285 theaters (over 9,000 screens) in the USA alone, the most for any Potter film. The last four films have opened on from 3,672 to 3,678 theaters - over 600 fewer.

With more screens, top reviews and a shorter run-time Phoenix is well on its way to being the top performer for the franchise to date!

Here is how the other films looked after their first weekend (USA only):

5 (OotP) = $140 mill
4 (GoF) = $102 mill
3 (PoA) = $93 mill
1 (PS/SS) = $90 mill
2 (CoS) = $88 mill

And the total worldwide box office for each at the end of their theater run (OotP not included):

1 (PS/SS) = $976 m(illion)
4 (GoF) = $892 m
2 (CoS) = $876 m
3 (PoA) = $789 m

Personally, I perdict Order of the Phoenix will be the first Potter film since the first to surpass $900 million worldwide.

We'll find out around in about 6 months...

EDIT: I should explain that approximately 50% of ticket sales (the "box office") goes to theater owners. This is why a film with a $150 million budget must gross more than $300 million in the box office in order for the studio to make a profit.
