Bess walked up to the hut with a basket.It seemed as if Miss Daaé was busy.So Bess didn't knock and disturb her.Instead,she left a note.

Before putting the basket on the doorstep,Bess took out some ribbons from her pocket and decorated the basket.When all was done,she ran away quietly.
