Chapter 5: That’s Different…

When Ginny and Hermione came down Ron was looking a little more cheerful and was talking to Harry as normal. She began to sit down when a brown owl landed on her seat and she fell over sideways trying not to squash it.
“Oh not again…” moaned Harry untying the letter.
“What is it Harry?” asked Ginny
“Another stupid letter from Cho…”
“Are you still in contact?” Ginny asked, worried.
“No she just keeps sending me stupid apology letters… well this is the second one I didn’t reply to the first… human hosepipe…” he replied and Ginny laughed.
“What does it say?”
“Hold on… Blah blah blah blah usual drivel er… “You didn’t reply to my last letter so I assumed you didn’t get it” Ha! Whatever “I’m really sorry about last year, with Cedric and everything it was really hard for me” Oh my god she can barely write his name anymore… “I’m willing to give another chance really, see you at school” Why can’t she just leave me alone! Has anyone got a quill and some parchment?”
Lupin handed him the equipment needed and he began to write. Ginny read it from over his shoulder when he was done along with Ron.

It’s a bit late to apologise now so can you please stop sending me letters. I have a new girlfriend now anyway and she’s not going to be happy if you keep writing to me. If Marietta hadn’t told on the DA maybe it could have worked, but she did and it’s too late to apologise. Harry

“I made that up so she’d stop writing stupid!” He replied, but he winked at Ginny when Ron looked away. She blushed and sat down at last to eat. It was then that she realised Tonks had seen him wink at her as she was (as usual) beaming at them from across the table.

After dinner Tonks cornered her and demanded to know what was happening.
“Ginny what’s going on between you and Harry?”
“Nothing!”
“Don’t lie I saw him wink at you!”
“Fine there is something going on…”
“What!?”
“Well… I’m sort of… his girlfriend…”
“Oh my god! Wow! You two are so perfect!”
“Hey Gin” said Harry appearing out of nowhere, well his head appearing out of nowhere. He supposedly was hanging down from the balcony above the door; it looked very strange, as his head was floating upside-down at the top of the doorway. “What is it Tonks?”
“Oh my god you two are so perfect that’s what!”
“Oh right Gin did you tell Tonks? … Well that sort of gave it away anyway but?”
“Yeah I did but she kinda figured it out for herself…”
Harry’s head disappeared for a second then he swung down from the balcony into the room.
“Ok then Tonks please don’t tell anyone, I know Ron’s gonna freak when I tell him…”
“Hermione’s telling Ron!”
“Really? Great!”
“I’ll see you two later then, bye!” said Tonks and she left, leaving the kitchen empty except for Harry and Ginny.

They stood in a comfortable silence, which was broken by a yell from upstairs.
“WHAT!” Followed by the thump of someone running down the staircase two steps at a time. Ron came bursting into the kitchen looking very shocked.
“Ginny are you Harry’s girlfriend?!” he almost yelled.
“YES AND NOTHING YOU SAY IS GOING TO CHANGE THAT!” She yelled. Ginny was so sick of Ron being so over protective. She wasn’t a little girl anymore she could take care of herself! Her blood boiled with rage and love. She had waited many years for Harry just to notice her and she wouldn’t let her brother get in the way of her dreams.
“Ron do you want me to get you a punchbag or play the roll of punchbag?” asked Harry. She smiled despite her mood and turned to hug Harry tightly. She didn’t know why but tears were spilling down her cheeks and she sobbed onto his shoulder as Ron watched, completely confused.
“Ginny I’m… I’m sorry…” he mumbled looking at the floor in shame.
“Ron I think you’re overreacting… again… why can’t somebody else say that for once I said that earlier!” said Hermione, entering unexpectedly… again…
“Besides why does Ginny being my girlfriend change anything, you saw us earlier?” asked Harry.
“It’s just… well… that’s different!”
“That’s your excuse for everything Ron, that’s different.” Said Ginny
“Yeah well… whatever I don’t mind…”
“It’s ok mate I know it must be weird, every man’s nightmare to have his best friend date his sister… but hey! We’ve got another year before we’re men so we can do whatever we like!” Said Harry, which made Ron smile and mumble a weak apology.
“I’m sorry…”
“It’s ok! Ginny what’s wrong?” He sounded concerned and she felt her heart lift.
“I don’t know… I’m just…” She burst into tears again found herself sobbing on his shoulder. Ron looked immensely guilty. Ginny let him breath for a moment and sat down on the same chair as Harry.

Suddenly there was a loud crack and the chair collapsed along with Harry and Ginny. She found herself lying on the floor next to what looked like a broken chair leg and burst out laughing.
“I have got to stop sitting on chairs or there’ll be none left in the house…” said Harry. He saw Ginny laughing and he beamed at her, his eyes sparkling. He was obviously overjoyed that she was happy again.

In August the booklists arrived from Hogwarts bringing many surprises. Hermione had all Outstandings except for DADA. Harry had mostly Exceeds Expectations like Ron, but was surprised to discover he got an Outstanding in DADA. Harry’s letter also contained another surprise.
“Wo…” said Harry.
“What?” said Ron
“Erm… nothing!” replied Harry. Ginny snatched the letter from Harry, who then jumped behind the sofa where no one could see him. Ginny screamed and yelled
“Quidditch captain!” Everyone gasped.
“Yeh… how’d I manage that?” asked Harry (still behind the sofa.)
“By being the best player on the team duh!”
“Good one Harry” said Hermione.
“I think I’ll try out for chaser this year, although my skills might have dropped a bit being cooped up here…” said Ginny.
“Great, I have to hold tryouts for the new beaters and chasers, I don’t wanna have to turn down my girlfriend!”
“I won’t be offended don’t worry, I’ll just glare at the chasers constantly throughout matches so they loose concentration, then I can replace them!”
“That’s ok you can do that, captain’s permission”
Everyone laughed as Mrs Weasley came in to collect the booklists. Harry received many congratulations from the Order at dinner. Ginny felt so lucky, she wasn’t just Harry Potter’s girlfriend, she was the Gryffindor Quidditch captain’s girlfriend now! She could already see the envious faces of the girls in her dormitory…

The summer holidays wilted away as September approached. Harry and Ginny were still together but no one else had found out about their relationship. Ginny was now more confident and didn’t blush all the time that Harry was around. How would it look if she was embarrassed all the time he was around and she was his girlfriend? She knew many girls would be deathly jealous of her, and she’d have to put up a fight to keep him by her side. Little did she know that Harry wouldn’t trade Ginny for anyone in the world. Cho had sent many pleading letters to Harry, but everyone had learned to burn any letters from “that dark brown owl”.

Everyone was up early to catch the Hogwart’s express, and as usual Mrs Weasley was killing everybody for being five minutes behind schedule.
“KIDS GET DOWN HERE NOW, GINNY LEAVE THAT TRUNK, RON GET OUT THE BATHROOM, FRED THROW THAT AWAY NOW, GEORGE YOUR UNIFORM IS NOT IN THE BASEMENT YOU BURNED IT REMEMBER YOU IDIOT?”
When Mrs Weasley’s voice could yell no more the Hogwart’s party set off in ministry cars to King’s Cross Station.
“Harry you do realise every girl in the school fancies you now?” said Hermione
“I won’t trade Ginny for anyone, you know that.” Harry replied.
“Good, coz she’s worried you’ll go for some blonde girl she knows fancies you in our year…”
“Who’s that?”
“Alison Edwards… she’s that tall blonde one, know her?”
