Chapter 16
Departure

It was now June, and Dezi talked with both Dumbledore and Harry and they agreed for Sirius to stay at Grimmauld Place ‘until further notice’. Dezi would never forget the talk she had with Dumbledore...

It was just two days before the last day of classes/school when her Transfiguration professor, Professor McGonagall (she still teaches there, she just passed her headmistress job off to the current headmaster about ten years prior) the headmaster wished to see her. Of course, Dezi did as she was told.
“Honey-dip doughnut,” she said to the gargoyle. It sprung to life, and she stepped onto the stairs. Slowly she was brought higher and higher until it jerked to a stop. She opened the door and entered the Headmaster’s office. She didn’t see Professor Boissoneault anywhere, so she had a feeling she knew which headmaster it was, but she didn’t want to interrupt anything, so she just stood where she was.
“Uh...”
“Over here.”
Dezi sighed in relief as she pulled up a chair in front of Professor Dumbledore’s painting.
“You wanted to see me, professor?”
“Yes,” was all he responded.
“What about...?”
“It appears its taking a lot longer to get a time-turner for Sirius Black than expected,” Professor Dumbledore responded simply. “I have come to the conclusion that since he had, for the first time in his life, enjoyed his visit at Grimmauld Place, that until we can get a time-turner for him, he shall stay there.”
“How’d you know about his stay?” Dezi asked curiously.
“Phineas.”
“’Uh?” came a grunt a few rows down.
“And I stayed there for a short while.”
“Really?”
“Yes. I do believe Ginny made the correct choice in not letting Tonks get some china plates.”
Dezi chuckled; it was true.
“So do you want to send a letter to dad about Sirius staying or...”
“Oh no, I have already talked to Harry and Sirius about this, and they both agreed, both were fairly eager.”
“Then why did you need to see me if they already know?” Dezi asked curiously.
“So you’d know. I know how Sirius can be able telling people important things at times, mainly when he’s excited, in which case he had sounded very excited.”
“He gave me the impression he would’ve rather been anywhere else than Grimmauld Place when he first got invited,” Dezi said pointedly.
“I recall he left home to stay with James back in his time because he didn’t want to be at his home, he hated being cooped up in there after he escaped Azkaban, but now that he’s running free and his family is no longer alive... well most of them are not alive anymore,” Dumbledore corrected; he forgot about Tonks being Sirius’s second cousin and Dezi technically being a (fairly) distant cousin. “He enjoyed the visit because he was not under any pressure; he had fun. He said he was hoping to stay there in the summer if he was still around when I talked with him actually.”
“Oh... huh.”
There was an extended silence.
“Is that all, professor?”
“You may go now,” Professor Dumbledore responded. Dezi left, surprised and feeling slightly odd.

But in late June, a letter came, weighed down and had a lump in it.. Dezi knew what it was automatically; she dreaded the moment it fell into her hands. She turned around and went into the kitchen.
“What’s that?” Harry asked as a jug of milk appeared on the table. Dezi looked up and saw everyone else sitting expectantly, her brother, sister, mom and Sirius.
“A letter,” Dezi said, smirking. Harry rolled his eyes.
“Who for?” he rephrased. He saw the slightly down expression on Dezi’s face, so he could only assume...
“Sirius,” Dezi responded.
She handed the miniature package to Sirius, whose expression was just like hers. She sat down, opposite of him, and watched him rip it open. Inside the envelope were a time-turner, which fell into his spare hand, and a letter. The letter read:

Mr. Sirius Black,
We are pleased to inform you that the time-turner in which we have sent shall bring you back to 1974 on this exact day at the abode of Mr. James Potter. This shall be a lesson learned that you never take another’s time-turner.
The turner to go back to the exact date and time you took the time-turner, so 1 turn shall do. You must use the Time-Turner within 12 hours of receiving it.

The Department of Magical Transportation

Sirius’s expression just continued to fall as he read the letter over twice.
“Well...?” Dezi finally asked, trying to break the awkward extended silence. Sirius looked at the letter, then the time turner, and back at the letter.
“I have 12 hours until I can return to Prongs... I mean James’ home,” Sirius practically breathed. He didn’t want to go back, but he had too.

“You have all your things you’ve gotten within this year?” Ginny asked once more.
“I didn’t get anything worth keeping,” Sirius responded again. “Just spare things. I just left them on the bed neatly positioned and I have everything else I actually need and yadayada...”
“Anything else you wish to repeat, Gin?” Harry asked with a smug grin. Dezi, Darren and Chloe chuckled. Ginny glared at her husband.
“We’ll miss you,” Chloe said.
“Well you still have... present time me, so there isn’t that much to miss, is there?” Sirius asked with a smile. Everyone gave their best smile, but they only did so because Sirius didn’t know his ‘present time me’ was actually dead.
“Well we’ll miss the 16-year-old you. Much more enjoyable,” Ginny responded.
Sirius looked thoughtful; he didn’t know if it was an insult or something to be proud of.
“Ok then...” was his response.
“Uh... I guess I’ll... see you...” Dezi said, unsure of how to phrase her thought. Sirius smiled faintly.
“I’ll never forget this experience...” he muttered. Looking at Dezi, he then said, “And I definitely won’t forget you.”
Dezi smiled and hugged him.
“Thanks for visiting,” she whispered while in mid-hug.
“Not meaning to rush, but you’ve got ten minutes until it’ll be 12 hours...”
Dezi pulled away. She didn’t want Sirius to leave, because when he did, he’d never be around, in person that is, ever again. He sighed and picked up the time-turner that was around his neck.
“Thanks for taking me in during the holidays,” he said as he gripped the knob.
“No problem,” Harry responded.
“And I still swear you’re related to James...” Sirius said. Harry chuckled.
“I’ll tell you a quick secret you have to swear not to tell,” Harry answered. Ginny looked at him nervously.
“I swear I’ll never tell. Now what is it?”
Harry chuckled.
“James is my dad,” Harry responded. Sirius’s mouth dropped slightly.
“Whose your mum?” Sirius blurted.
“Are you sure...” Ginny started.
“Yeah, Gin, besides, it all happens in his 7th year, which is technically 2 months away...” Harry whispered.
“You’ve got five minutes,” Darren pointed out. Sirius started to look worried, yet excited at knowing the truth at the same time.
“My mum... my mum is Lily.”
“Evans?”
“I... ya, Lily Evans,” Harry finished. Her maiden name slipped his mind momentarily. Sirius’s mouth was hanging.
“No... freaking... way!”
“Now you have to go. And you have to not say a word to James or Lily, or anyone else for that matter, or else. Even if... never mind, you’ll find out,” Harry concluded. “Now you should go.”
Sirius sighed as he turned the knob.
“Thanks again,” he said as he vanished. Where he now stood was just a blank area by the front door.
