Ok I'm done this chapter...
FINALLY!
Anyways, ya, couldn't think of a good title... it kinda works with the story but kinda doesn't...
I went through HBP (book) to get the first section of this chapter, that's one reason why I took forever (it's my favourite line Ron says I was looking for, along with the rest of the class he said it in).
Enjoy Chapter 7
‘I Don’t Know!’
Harry sat in his classes not truly paying attention. He was trying to figure out what to do about his dreams, what to do about Dom. He needed a new challenge, and now he has one; figuring out Dom. Hermione had tried to talk to her earlier, but that was no use, Dom just shut her out.
“Mr. Potter, would you stop daydreaming for a moment at least pretend to care,” Snape said in a cold monotone.
“I could say the same about you,” Harry mumbled as he tore his gaze away from Dom.
“What was that, Potter?”
“Nothing, sir,” Harry responded with mock sincereness. Snape’s gaze bore into him, and Harry looked down at his paper, continuing to write.
“Ten points from Gryffindor,” Snape said plainly.
“What for?” Harry asked, looking up.
“Just because you’re Potter,” Snape responded, his lip curling into a twisted smile. Turning away, he went back to his lesson about Inferi. As soon as Professor Snape had turned around, Harry’s attention went back to Dom.
“What is the difference between a ghost and an Inferius?”
Hermione’s hand shot up, but Snape ignored it.
“Anyone...?”
Hermione’s hand was waving crazily in the air. Harry’s attention was still on Dom.
“Potter seems to have a lot to say on the subject,” Snape drawled sarcastically. “So tell us, Potter. What is the different between a ghost and an Inferius?” He dropped a book on Harry’s desk, causing him to jump and look up.
“Er - well - ghosts are transparent...”
“Oh, very good,” Snape interrupted, his lip curling. “Yes, it is easy to see that nearly six years of magical education have not been wasted on you, Potter. ‘Ghosts are transparent.’”
In the back, Pansy Parkinson let out a high-pitched giggle. Some others in the class were either smirking of laughing. Harry took a deep breath and continued calmly, despite his insides boiling. “Yeah, ghosts are transparent, but Inferi are dead bodies, aren’t they? So they’d be solid...”
“A five-year-old could have told us as much,” Snape sneered. “The Inferius is a corpse that has been reanimated by a Dark wizard’s spells. It is not alive, but merely used like a puppet to do the wizard’s bidding. A ghost, as I trust you are all aware by now, is the imprint of a departed soul left upon earth, and of course, as Potter so wisely tells us, transparent.”
“Well what Harry said is most useful if we’re trying to tell them apart!” Ron said indignantly. “When we come face-to-face with one down a dark alley, we’re going to be having a shufti to see if it’s solid, aren’t we, we’re not going to be asking, ‘Excuse me, are you the imprint of a departed soul?’”
The classroom echoes with loud laughter, which was instantly subdued by the look Snape gave to everyone.
“Another ten points from Gryffindor,” Snape said. “I would expect nothing more sophisticated from you, Ronald Weasley, the boy so solid he cannot Apparate half an inch across a room.”
“No!” whispered Hermione, grabbing Harry’s arm as he opened his mouth furiously, now really paying attention. “There’s no point, you’ll just end up in detention. Leave it!”
“Now open your books to page two hundred and thirteen,” said Snape, smirking a little, “and read the first two paragraphs on the Cruciatus Curse...”
Ron was subdued the rest of class. When the bell sounded at the end of the lesson, indicating the end of classes for the weekend, Harry, Ron and Hermione rushed out of class. They went up the stairs to the Tower without a word, the only word spoken being the password to get into the Gryffindor common room. Hermione went upstairs to her dormitory and stayed there for a long while, and Harry and Ron dropped their things by the couch and sat down.
“Hiya Harry!”
Harry looked up and saw some second year boy he didn’t recognize.
“Hey...”
“Do you know when you’re holding Quidditch practice by chance?”
“Not yet...”
“Will you be...?”
“Yes, I’ll be posting the day,” Harry said with a clenched jaw.
“Ok, thanks!” The boy scurried off. The common room was silent for another few minutes, no one passed through to go to their dorms or hang out in the room.
“So you still have no idea when...” Ron stopped when he saw the glare Harry was giving him. Without saying a word, Ron stood up and went upstairs, leaving Harry alone in the common room in thought for a long while.
“Hiya Harry!”
Harry looked up to see another second year boy standing at the edge of the couch.
“Do you happen to know when...”
“No,” Harry responded flatly. The boy then walked away. The portrait hole kept on opening, and every time the person would come up to Harry and ask the same exact question. On the thirtieth time, Harry just bellowed, “I DON’T KNOW!” before the person could even ask.
“Don’t know what? How to describe a ghost?”
Harry recognized Dom’s slightly mocking voice immediately. He blushed.
“Thought you were someone else...” he muttered as he reached out to grab anything that could distract him. He grabbed a magazine. Dom was silent, the only noise being footsteps.
“Since when’d you read Just 4 Witches?”
Harry jumped and tossed the magazine across the room.
“What’re you talking about?” he asked as he turned around and saw Dom behind the couch and practically over his shoulder with a slight smirk.
“That ‘the Chosen One’ has ‘chosen’ to read girl magazines. What’s with you lately?”
“Why’re you asking?” Harry asked, somewhat suspicious.
“Because I’m curious, do I need a reason for everything?”
Harry couldn’t take it, he stood up and started to head to the stairs leading to his dormitory.
“Where’re you going?” Dom asked.
“Where do you think?” Harry responded as he stopped at the bottom of the stair to turn around. He semi-smirked.
“Uh... no where?” Dom responded with a playful smile.
“You seemed to like being alone before,” Harry responded quietly. He quickly regretted saying this, Dom went solemn and pulled back to herself once more. She looked down for a few moments.
“I was told by someone that you should the past behind you, that if you accept one person, your life can turn around,” Dom responded, looking back up at him.
“How’s it gone so far?” Harry asked, his smirk turning to a warm smile as he started to go back into the centre of the common room (to grab his things).
“Fairly well actually.”
Harry felt her grip on his robes, and he turned to face her. She looked up at him and before he could think twice, his lips were on hers.
