He couldn’t believe it. Draco Malfoy had said it but Ron couldn’t believe it. Ron didn’t just feel angry, a wave of pure uncontrollable, rash fury swept over him.
Hermione had gasped audibly, along with the others, Harry looked a bit perplexed but angry as well, nothing Malfoy ever said was pleasant, and the twins were passing some secret message by their looks alone. Angelina, Katie, and Alicia were quick to hold them back.
Draco had called Hermione a mudblood.
Without thinking, without pause, only a desire to protect Hermione, Ron drew his broken, spell-o-taped wand and said, “Eat slugs!”
