Ahhh! Sorry it took so long! (8 days!) and it's still so short! But I needed Draco to know about the ring... and I had little inspiration. But here ya go.
--- “Can I ask you something?” Draco asked. He and Charlie had now been dating for two months. It had taken a long time, but it had finally happened. Charlie was snuggled up next to him on the couch and Draco had his arm around her.
“Anything,” Charlie said under her breath, her head nestled on his shoulder. She hadn’t really been listening since they hadn’t really been talking, but now she looked up at him lazily.
“What’s with the rings?” he asked, “You never take them off.” Charlie thought for a little while before answering. Where would she start? With the fact that her mother left her family, how she had given her the rings? Or just the magic of them. Well, she decided she could tell Draco anything, but moved a little bit away from him.
“The first one, my mother used to always wear, on a necklace. Nothing really… special about it,” she took it off and handed it to Draco as she continued, “this one though,” she took off the magic ring, “my mother used to wear this one all the time too… she never gave it to me, up until she left anyways… this summer. I haven’t spoken to her since she left, but she just walked out on me and my dad. I haven’t talked to him much either… but this ring, it’s magic. You can call anyone in the world. Alive, or dead. I haven’t entirely figured out how it works though. I’ve only called Ashley.” She explained. Draco nodded, pay close attention as he twirled the first ring between two fingers, then handing it back to Charlie.
“That all it does?” he finally asked, as if that wasn’t enough. Charlie shrugged.
“I s’pose so… that’s all my mother told me it did before she left.” Draco nodded.
“I see, but I bet it does more.”
“More?” Charlie repeated.
“More,” Draco repeated for the third time.
“What more?” she asked.
“I’m not sure, but MY mum had a ring like this. Well, I assume it was like yours. Father gave it to her, and she never took it off. It looked an awful like that one… with the heart and the crown and I always noticed her whispering into it. Especially after grandfather died. But with that ring, she also did all sorts of stuff, like light stuff… like she’d press a button and a light would shine out, sometimes there were people in the light, but not always. I just, I didn’t understand it. But now I do… well, I think I do. This thing is a lot like a muggle telephone…”
“Used to call people?” Charlie asked.
“Yes, but more. You can actually see the people and stuff you need.” Charlie nodded, listening to him.
“Mind if I see the ring?” Draco asked. Charlie shrugged and took it off.
“Go ahead. I’ve looked at the thing dozens of times, but I haven’t found anything special, other then being able to call Ashley, with it.” Charlie pulled off the ring and handed it to Draco. He looked it over and over.
“Hmmm…” he muttered under his breath, Charlie watched him carefully.
