Braking Charm It was the first Slytherin versus Gryffindor match of second year and the tension was as thick as a woolen blanket over the school of Hogwarts. Hermione couldn’t walk through the halls without insults being hurled at Harry by passing Slytherins.
Draco was the new Slytherin seeker, which didn’t help the circumstance. She couldn’t stand that boy. He was always smirking at her or doing something equally stupid.
Up in the stands, everyone around her was chanting, rooting for their team. As the game progressed, Hermione’s eyes drifted to the seeker with the sleek, blonde hair. He suddenly tripped up on his broom; gasping, Hermione whipped out her wand, performing a braking charm.
He wasn’t surprised when his broom slowed after his silly blunder; it had a mechanism in it to do this sort of thing. Draco glanced up and spotted a girl with a vast amount of hair, wand at the ready. Had she possibly tried to help him?
She was relieved she’d saved his neck, even though he was her foe. What would have happened if she hadn’t thought so fast?
“You know, my broom already has a braking charm, Mudblood,” Draco drawled to her after the game.
