Hogwarts RPG Name: Charlotte (Charlie) Elizabeth Jamison | The Magic Rings - Sa16+ Going Broadway <3 This is my first fanfic on the site, please comment... I hope you like it.
---
A girl twisted a ring on her left thumb. She’d had it since her first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She was now going into her sixth year. Before she came to Hogwarts, the girl’s mother used to wear it on a silver chain necklace. On that necklace was always another ring too… her mother still had it. The girl didn’t think about that ring much, just the one she wore. It was an intricate silver band with a black heart in the center.
The girl was Charlotte Jamison, also known as Charlie. Charlie had jet-black hair that was always either up neatly in a ponytail or bun. Rarely was it ever let down, but the few times it was it was always perfectly in place. Charlie was a neat girl; everything about her was neat. Her clothes were always perfectly pressed before she wore them and her earrings always matched, all four of them. Her black Nikes that she always wore were always spotless and her nails were always perfectly painted. Charlie wasn’t just a neat girl; she was a neat freak. Charlie’s eyes sparkled emerald green in comparison to her pale skin. Her dark hair also stood out, making her skin look even paler then it was. Charlie’s mother was Bella Jamison, married to Mathieu Jamison (who’s mother, unfortunately, loved French names). Very lucky for Bella, very unlucky for Mathieu.
Charlie took after her father in looks, but mother in cleanliness. To Bella, cleanliness was not only next to godliness… it surpassed it. To Mathieu, cleanliness was optional. Bella hated it, but loved Mathieu, so she put up with it. Mathieu had black hair that when it wasn’t messy looked odd, so it was always messy. He had unusually pale skin and bright green eyes. Bella had kept brown hair that reached the middle of her back and was always in a tight bun at the very top of her head. She had blazing blue eyes and tan skin. The thing Charlie remembered most about her mother, while Charlie was at school, was that Bella had amazing posture. She always sat and stood up straight. The other thing Charlie remembered was her rings.
When Charlie was little, she used to love the rings that Bella wore on a silver chain around her neck. There were two rings. The one that Charlie now wore on her left thumb and another that was still around her mother’s neck. That one was even more gorgeous. It was silver and with an emerald heart in the middle that matched Charlie’s eyes. Surrounding the heart, on the band, were two silver hands. On the top of the heart was a crown. The thumbs pointed towards the crown. Bella called the ring a ‘love ring’ and told Charlie it was magic. Charlie was used to magic, she had been born with it in her blood. Her mother was a witch, her father was a wizard. But why was this ring so special? Charlie didn’t know, but she knew it was gorgeous.
Bella, Mathieu, and Charlie’s proudest moment was when Charlie got accepted into Hogwarts school. Bella was so proud, she gave Charlie one of her rings, but not the one Charlie really wanted. Charlie didn’t even mind though, she was so happy to have the black-hearted ring.
Charlie was now ready to go into her sixth year of Hogwarts and still wanted the other ring. She still had no idea why it was so magical though. Someone knocked on her door.
“Charlie?” a female voice asked. Charlie didn’t answer, only fiddled with her ring.
“Charlie?” she asked again. Charlie still didn’t answer.
“Charlotte!” the voice said, sharper now.
“Mm, yeah?” Charlie asked, from her bed. Her mother entered the room and sat down next to her on the bed.
“Charlie?” she asked again.
“Yeah?” Charlie asked, looking up at her mom for the first time since she entered the room. Bella was holding something in her hands. A silver chain with a necklace on it, but Charlie didn’t know that.
“Here.” Bella said, stuffing it into Charlie’s hands.
“I want you to have this, it’s an important year, and I… I have to go. I’m leaving. After you are, I’ll stay until you leave. But then… I have to go. I can’t stay here any more. That ring… I wrote instructions, here.” Bella handed a piece of paper to Charlie. She hadn’t been holding the paper there a second before, but Charlie hadn’t noticed.
“Mom, you’re leaving dad?” Charlie asked, wide-eyed. Bella nodded, a tear coming to her eyes.
“I can’t take him anymore. We’ve fought so much over the years, but I’ve tried to keep us together, for you, darling. For you… but I can’t do it anymore. I need to leave. I need to meet someone else; I can’t spend the rest of my life with your father. I’m sorry, Charlie. I really am.” Tears came to Charlie’s eyes as her mother spoke. She didn’t even try to get them to stop.
“How could you?” Charlie asked, after she managed to get words to come out of her mouth.
“Charlie… I still love you, I just… I have to leave. I’m sorry.” Tears streamed down Bella’s cheeks. Her hands were folded in her lap.
“Leave, now.” Charlie said; it was more of a command then a statement though.
“What?” Bella asked, nearly choking.
“You heard me.” Charlie said, refusing to repeat herself. Bella didn’t say another word. She stood up, bent over her daughter to kiss her head, but Charlie leaned away, deflecting the kiss. Biting her lip Bella straightened herself up and left Charlie’s plain room for her own decorated one. She took a wand off her dresser, waved it once to pack her bag, took her bag by the handle and rolled it outside, leaving without another word. Charlie looked at the ring in her hand.
“Why did I want this so much?” she asked herself aloud. She slipped it on her right middle finger and opened the piece of paper. Darling Charlotte, I know by the time you read this I’ve gone, or told you I’m going… so I know you’re very reluctant to read this letter… but I’m glad you’ve finally decided to. My letter is to explain myself, as much as the ring. Your father and I, well, you know we’re so different and we fought all the time, just not in front of you. I don’t know how much of this I’ve managed to actually tell you… but I have to leave. I can’t take your father anymore. His mess, among other things, is killing me. I still love you though, and I hope you visit me over the holidays. I’ll send you my new address once I have it, you’ll probably be at Hogwarts by then. My, my, you’ll be in sixth year! How big you’ve gotten! I miss you already; no matter how long it’s taken you to read this letter. I hope to see you soon. Oh, and about the ring. First of all, it’s called a “Claddagh” ring; it’s an Irish love ring. I got it from my mother, who got it from her mother, who got it from her husband, when he engaged to her. It’s significance for Irish muggles is that when the point of the heart faces you, someone has taken your heart, and you’re in love or not looking for love, at the moment. When the point faces away from you, you’re open to new love, looking for it. This one is very special though, magic. If you say ‘I’m a lover, through and through’ the stone will open a little, and you can say a name… that way, you can talk to anyone, dead or alive. I hope you’ll talk to me, as one of your first people. When you talk to them, the stone will turn black, when you hang up it will go back to its original color. But be careful! If you leave the stone large, anyone can access it and talk to anyone, also dead or alive. That’s bad, because anyone can then access anything in the world, and cause trouble. Be sure to close the portal by saying ‘My love is true.’ The stone will then go back to its original size. I hope to talk to you soon, my dear Charlotte. I love you, always. Love, Mom
Charlie read the letter over three times. She looked at the ring. Stupid ring… has to be so ******* gorgeous! She still loved it, and now appreciated what it did.
“I’m a lover, through and through.” She stated clearly. The ring grew a little and Charlie thought of whom to call.
“Ashley Tchichinello.” She said and the ring turned black.
“He-hello?” a voice asked.
“Ash!” It was Charlie’s best friend, from Hogwarts.
“Charlie?” Ashley asked, “Where are you?”
“I’m at home. I have this new ring… it let’s me talk to people… I’m just wondering, how are you talking to me?” Charlie couldn’t help but wonder how the other end worked, no one had ever contacted her through a ring before.
“I-I’m not sure. It’s like, I hear your voice in my head…” Ashley seemed afraid.
“That’s weird. But I can’t wait for school! I miss you so much and I have the worst news!”
“What happened?” Ashley asked, worried now for her best friend.
“My… my mother left.” Charlie admitted, the truth finally registering.
“Oh, Charlie… I’m so sorry. I can’t wait to see you either. We’ll have a talk session then, and you’ll feel better, I promise. But I need to be there. You know the drill.” Charlie was a pureblood; she was also a Slytherin. Ashley was a muggle-born whose parents were psychiatrists. She was always talking about ‘talk sessions’ and Charlie did find them helpful so she didn’t complain. It was odd, for a Slytherin and a muggle-born to be friends, but Charlie and Ashley were bests. They didn’t often get to talk during the summer, but Charlie was glad they could. Charlie couldn’t send owls, because Ashley’s mom thought they were weird and Ashley couldn’t call because Charlie didn’t know what a ‘telephone’ was.
“I’m just so glad to hear your voice, I can’t wait to see you.” Charlie said, with a sigh. She smiled, but Ashley couldn’t see that.
“Alright, then. I’ll see you at school?”
“Deal.” Charlie promised. Ashley was a Gryffindor but Charlie didn’t care, they always found ways to meet up. The first met on the train to Hogwarts, their first year. Charlie was in a compartment by herself and Ashley had nowhere to sit. They became best friends instantly and even though they were put into separate houses; they were still best friends. Charlie ended the conversation by saying, “My love is true.” The ring was obviously meant for lovers to speak wherever they were, even if one was dead, but Charlie had no problems calling her best friend with it. The ring shrunk and turned green again.
“Excellent.” Charlie smiled. She started packing, only a week until Hogwarts! Post Two Post Three Post Four Post Five Post Six Post Seven Post Eight Post Nine Post Ten Post Eleven Post Twelve Post Thirteen Post Fourteen Post Fifteen Post Sixteen Post Seventeen
