Muggles are amazing in that, they are always trying to improve. Wizards and witches can be, to be honest, somewhat lazy when it comes to discovery. We find a single method we like, and then we stop right there. Muggles will go as far as to make 5 attempts at the same window cleaner, to try and find the right solution.
