Chapter fourteen:

Draco sat in his bed, staring at the opposite wall. He wasn’t doing anything, really. Just thinking. The past week at Ellie’s house had been excellent, and there was still another week and a half until they had to go back to school.

Draco had gone sledding, decorated the house, picked out a tree, went Christmas shopping, and had also learned how to snowboard. All helped by Ellie, and occasionally Ellie’s old friends.

But the friends really weren’t that much help. All they did was giggle! All day. Quiet annoying if you think about it. Draco was also quit pleased that in America, the rule was that you could practice simple spells and charms while out of school.

It had been the best time of his life. He grinned to himself as he anticipated tomorrow. Christmas. All the decorations, the snow falling, the turkey that Ellie’s mother had been planning ever since she knew that Draco was coming. It all seemed to good to be true.

He walked to the window, and looked out. It was snowing. The star shaped flecks of snow gently falling to earth. He sat for a moment more, but then the peace was broken. He let out a yelp, and gripped his left arm. It was burning. Burning as if it were on fire.

He gently pulled up is sleeve, and there was the dark mark, jet black against his pale skin. He grimaced, and pressed his cool hand to the burning patch of skin, and looked around. It just had to have happened now. There was nothing he could do. He had to go.

* * *

Ellie jumped out of bed, and glanced at the clock. It was 7:30 in the morning. Time to wake everyone up! It had always been her self-assigned job on Christmas. She skipped out of her room, and ran into her parents.

“IT’S CHRISTMAS!” She yelled, and jumped onto their bed, and then catapulted herself off, and out the door. She then ran to the guest bedroom, and threw the door open.

“GET UP IT’S—“ But she stopped. No one was there. “Ah, come on Draco, I can’t wake you up once?” She looked under the bed, and then in the closet, trying to figure out were he was hidden, but he wasn’t in either of those places.

“Draco?” Ellie mumbled. Only then did she see the owl sitting on the desk, a note in it’s beak. She took it, and read…

-Ellie
Look, I’m really sorry, but I have to leave. It’s not your fault, but I won’t be coming back. Tell your parents thanks, for everything, and sorry that I bailed. I guess I’ll see you at Hogwarts
Draco

P.S. Don’t try and write. It won’t get to me.

Ellie couldn’t help it. She sat down hard on the bed, and began to cry.

Chapter fifteen

Draco was again sitting in his bed. This time the one in Malfoy Manor. He was extremely angry. His father had some how found out that he had not been spending Christmas break at Hogwarts, as he had been told, but off at a strangers house.

So now, Draco was stuck in his room. He wasn’t allowed out, and his windows were magically sealed so no letters could find there way in or out. He got up, and pulled out the poker for his fire place, and hit the large windows as hard as he could. It was a good way to get the anger out, or at least show it, since no one had come in for the past few days.

The poker just ricocheted of, leaving the window in perfect condition. He hit it again, and again, and again, and was drawing it back for yet another blow, when a high, squeaky voice spoke.

“Master is coming, young master. He is wishing to speeks with you.” Before Draco could utter a single word, the house elf had disappeared, and the door burst open. Lucius Malfoy stood in the door, and behind him was Draco’s mother, Narcisa Malfoy.

Lucius turned a cold eye on his son, and strode to the center of the room. Narcisa followed, keeping her eyes on the floor.

“So Draco. I have come to have some questions answered.” Draco just looked at his father, his face blank. “Join me in a drink?” The elf was back with a tray holding two goblets.

Latter on Draco couldn’t believe that he had been stupid enough to drink. It had been spiked with that stupid truth potion, and Draco had spilled it all.

“Who’s house were you at?” Lucius demanded. Draco was about to say it was none of his fathers business who’s house he was at, but instead his mouth said, “Ellie’s house.” Lucius raised an eye brow, and Narcisa tilted her head, almost as if to hear better.

“And who is Ellie?” With all his might, Draco tried to stop his mouth from saying the words, but it didn’t work. “My little sister.” Draco heard a gasp come from his mother, but he was watching his father, who’s facing was draining of color, his eyes glinting. ‘Uh-oh.” Draco said to himself.

“Y-Your sister?” Did I hear that correctly?” Draco nodded his head, his eyes on the floor. Draco expected his father to hit him, or at least continue the questioning, but instead his father said, not to him, but his mother,

“What have you done!”

Draco looked, and saw Narcisa’s eyes get big. “I-I didn’t Kn-Know that she w-was still al-live.” She stuttered. Lucius narrowed his eyes, but looked away. “the dark lord will find out about this. Mark my words.” And he was gone, along with Narcisa.

Draco mentally kicked himself. He should have seen that coming, but how did his father now he wasn’t at school? He threw himself on his bed, and then his thoughts went to the Slytherin on the plain. Could she have?

It made sense. They hadn’t watched her the entire time, she could easily have seen them, and thought it strange. Then he thought about what would happen to him. He was in for it. He was sure.

And his father wouldn’t just drop this new knowledge of Ellie. Something would happen, most definitely.

It was the day before he would be going back to Hogwarts, and there was a light knock on his door.

“What!?” he snapped. The door opened, and there stood his father. “Hello Draco.” Said Lucius. “The Dark Lord has a mission for you.” Draco slowly sat up in his bed, staring at his father. “And what might that be.”

Lucius took his time answering. “He is… going to see what this, Ellie, is made of, so to speak.” Draco narrowed his eyes. “How.” “That will be made clear, in due time. IMPEREO!” The unforgivable curse hit Draco before he could do anything.

He had never been good with it, and he knew he would never be able to shake it off. “Now get ready for school.” He could hear his father say, as if from a great distance, and he did.

Chapter sixteen

Ellie was bouncing up and down as she found a compartment to sit in with the trio and Ginny. Ginny and Harry were acting strangely curt, but Hermione and Ron were the same as usual.

Ellie glanced out the window and saw a blond head go by, and she jumped up. “I uh… forgot to say goodbye to my parents! I better go do it!” she said. “You already did. I was there, remember?” Ginny said, an eyebrow raised.

“Well, I’m just going to… do it again! Nothing wrong with that, is there?” she made to open the door, but Ginny stopped her. “Can I come with? I never really met your parents.” Ginny is being strangely persistent today. Ellie thought.

“I’d rather you didn’t.” was all she said.

“I think I’ll just come along anyway.”

“NO! I mean, no, that’s fine. I’ll just go alone.”

“No, I really want to come with.”

“It’ll just be boring, and I might take a while. Plus I need to use the bathroom.”

“I do to! Ironic, no?” Ellie glowered at her, but Ginny just smiled sweetly.

“Yeah, I think I want to come meet your parents too!” It was Harry now. What had gotten into them? “N-“ “Great! Lets go!” Both Harry and Ginny grabbed Ellie by the elbows and pulled her out. They walked a ways, until they found and empty compartment near the end of the train.

“in.” said Ginny, opening the door. “You guys, I really want to talk to my parents.”

Please don’t sound like your lying.

“We know that’s not it, Ellie. We know about Malfoy.” This was the last think Ellie had expected, and the surprise showed on her face.

“W…What are you talking about? I h…hate dracoimeanmalfoy.” Ellie could have punched herself. She had totally given it away.

“I really need to go now.” She said, and before they could stop her, she ran out the door. She ran up the hall, not looking were she was going, and she ran head long into someone.

“I’m sorry!” she cried, just stopping herself from falling on top of the person.

“Ah. Ellie. We need to talk. Meet me outside, but the broom shed at 8:00. Don’t be late.” Ellie looked up just in time to see Draco stalk off.

“That was weird.” Ellie said to herself.

Ellie stood by the broom sheds, and glanced at her watch. It was 7:58. Draco would be there any minute. “Ah, good. You’re here.” She turned, and there stood Draco. Ellie smiled at him, expecting a smile in return, but none came. The smile slid of her face like jelly.

“We need to go.” Draco said, and started walking. “Where to? What’s going on?” Draco was acting strange. He kept glancing around, and wouldn’t look at her, but the one time she caught his eye, she noticed there was something different about them. She stopped walking.

“C’mon Ellie. This is important.” Draco grabbed Ellie by the hand, as started pulling here towards the gates of Hogwarts.

“Draco, let go, c…come on, you’re scaring me, let go!” Without stopping, he gripped her hand harder, and answered back.

“No. I will not let go, and you know why? Because you are part of the Malfoy family, and you are going to face that responsibility. They know you’re here, Ellie. And they want you to come.”

“W…well maybe I don’t want to go!” Ellie said, but it was to late. They had reached Hogsmeade, And Draco had twisted on the spot, taking Ellie with him.

Ellie hated the feel of Apperating. It was a lot easier then some ways of traveling, but she hated the feeling of being dragged along even worse, especially when she didn’t want to go, because then there would be a slight drag on her end.

Suddenly, a room appeared. It was plain, with white walls, and two doors.

“W…Where are we, D…Draco?” Ellie stuttered, looking around.

“Ellie?” It was a soft voice, and Ellie found it strangely…familiar. But she didn’t know how. She turned, and found herself looking at a tall women, with long blond hair, and a slightly shallow face.

“Oh, Ellie, it is you!” she held out her arms, as if expecting a hug, but it didn’t come.

“I’m sorry if I sound rude, but do I know you?” Before the women could answer, Draco shoved Ellie aside, and approached the women.

“Father will be very angry when he sees all this!” Draco stated. The women stood up taller, and glared down at him.

“He is already very angry with you.” She said. Her voice had changed when she spoke to Draco. It was slightly more, cold.

“Draco, who is that? I feel like I know her.” Ellie whispered to Draco.

“You do know her.” Draco said scornfully. “That is our mother dear.” Ellie gasped, and looked up to see her mother, her real mother, smiling at her.

“Y…you mean, y…you are my mom?” Ellie asked slowly. She nodded. Ellie walked over to her mother, and hugged her. Narccisa Malfoy hugged Ellie back. She had thought she would never see her daughter again, yet here she was.

“I wish I never had to give you away.” Whispered Narcissa. “Why did you?” asked Ellie. “It’s a … long story. Maybe I can tell it latter.” Ellie nodded.

“Hate to break up the ‘daughter mother reunion’ but we have to go.” Ellie looked up at her mother, who nodded. Ellie followed Draco out the door, and felt Narcissa right behind her. They went out one of the doors, and where in a dark hallway. They went down a flight of stairs, and then turned right, left, right again, and then arrived at a large iron door, with a snake surrounding an ‘S’ on it. Ellie fingered at her necklace, and Narcissa noticed.

“She gave it too you?” she asked, and Ellie nodded.

“I never take it off.” She whispered, so only Narcissa could hear. She smiled, her eyes starting to fill with tears, but she whipped them away.

“We’re going in now.” Spat Draco, and he shoved open the doors. Ellie had to stop herself from gasping to loudly. They had walked into a very large room, filled with people in masks, and black robes. Ellie glanced at Draco, and noticed that he had just dawned his mask, and Narcissa had done the same. In the center of the room, there stood a man. He had his back to Ellie, but just the wave of fear that swept over her was enough.

It was Voldimort. She stopped in her tracks, staring at the man that her best friend wanted to kill. Narcissa nudged her gently in the back, and she started walking again, but much more hesitantly. When they had reached the inside ring surrounding Voldimort, they stopped. Ellie looked around, not sure what was going on.

“Ellie Malfoy.” A cold, high voice had come from the figure with his back to her. He turned, and Ellie made a face. He was pale, or more, white. His eyes were red, and in all, he looked like something out of a nightmare (a.k.a, the dude at the end of fourth movie!)

“Come up here, Ellie.” He hissed. Every part of Ellie was screaming at her, telling her to turn around and run, but she couldn’t, she just stood there. As if stuck to the floor.

“I said, come here!” he said again, in the same high pitched voice. It seemed almost un natural. He beckoned to her, and against her will, Ellie put on foot before the other, and slowly made her way up to the center.

“Put out your arm.” He hissed. Ellie just stared up at him, fear bubbling inside of her, telling herself to run. He smirked suddenly, and Ellie heard a voice, a high, cold voice, in her head.

“I know you are afraid, Miss Malfoy.” It said, scornfully. “So what if I am, Tom?” She replied boldly, again in her head. Voldimort just looked at her, and then struck her across the face. It was strange. Ellie didn’t even feel the blow, it was as if he hadn’t really touched her.

Voldimort didn’t seem to notice this, but just grabbed her left arm, and pulled up the sleeve. Ellie tried to pull away, but she couldn’t. His long, spider like hand gripped the inside of her arm, and suddenly, there was a burning pain.

Ellie couldn’t help screaming, it hurt that bad. It felt like her arm was on fire. Voldimort watched her scream. Anger evident in his eyes, and then he let go, but the pain did not leave. Ellie looked down at her arm, and screamed again. There on her arm, was the ugly dark mark. He had marked her as a death eater.

Ellie woke with a start. She was in her bed, in the Gryffindor tower. She had just had the worst dream in existence. What was it again? She tried to think, but her left arm was throbbing painfully, and she couldn’t concentrate. What had she done to her arm? She couldn’t remember.

She pulled up her sleeve, and examined her arm. Nothing there. Then she turned it to the under side, and screamed. Everything came back to her as her eyes landed on the dark mark.

She looked around, still screaming, but no one was in the dorm. They were probably down at breakfast already. Ellie jumped out of bed, to find herself still in the clothes she had been wearing last night. So it was all true.

She ran down the stairs, and into the common room, to find a few people still there, looking at her. “Was that you screaming?” On asked. She just looked at the boy, and then shot out of the portrait hole, down to the great hall. She had to tell Dumbledore.

Right before she ran into everyone having breakfast, she stopped. Would he believe her? She fingered her sleeve, trying to stop herself from looking at the ugly thing again. She couldn’t tell Dumbledore. What if he accused her? What if he sent her to Azkaban, with all those Dementores? She couldn’t risk it, she would have to come up with something else, and were long sleeves.
