Elena took Max's outstretched hand and took a step towards him. As she put weight on her foot, the lake bottom shifted and she found herself slipping backwards into deeper water. She couldn't supress a cry of surprise and her grip on Max's hand involutarily tightened.

Between the death grip she had on Max's hand and a few frantic kicks she was able to regain her balance after a few terrifying and painfully embarassing seconds. It's not like drowning was on her list of things to do.

"Apparently I'm just a klutz," she said in a feeble attempt to disguise the fact that she was actually rather scared.
