PART SEVEN - Pranking Snape Again


Breakfast was always a noisy business at Hogwarts. One thousand students in one hall, talking about homework they had not done yet, discussing today's timetabl, Quidditch and what else. The teachers always talked among themselves, except if Professor McGonagall had to come down from the staff table to hand out detention. Mostly giving the Marauders detention.

But the afore mentioned four boys were not talking. They were just looking over at the Slytherin table, waiting for the right moment. Their chosen victim, Snivellus Snape, was calmly eating his cereals, unaware of the misery to come to him in a few minutes.

“I'll do it now,“ Padfoot whispered to his friends, who nodded silently. He slowly got up and while walking to the Slytherin table he pulled a stinkbomb from his bag. A few people at the Gryffindor table were watching him. Padfoot pranking Snape was always guaranteed fun.

“What are you doing here?” a voice asked behind him. Padfoot turned around. It was Lily Evans, Head Girl, muggleborn – always abiding the rules. He quickly hid the stinkbomb in his bag again.

“Uhm … nothing. Isn’t it allowed to take a walk in the Great Hall?” Sirius asked, trying to sound innocent and almost succeeding. But Evans knew the Marauders too well by now.

“I know that you’re up to something and I will not allow you to loose any more points from Gryffindor. I will tell Professor McGonagall, trust me,” she said loudly. A few peope turned their heads to see what the commotion was about.

“Oh yeah, now I’m really scared, Evans.”

Lily shot him a furious look and turned around, stalking off towards the staff table.

Hurry, Prongs mouthed. She’s getting McGonagall.

Padfoot nodded and silently continued on his way. Luckily Snivellus hadn’t noticed a thing. He was deeply concentrated, reading a book that was probably about the Dark Arts.

While walking he pulled the stinkbomb carefully out again. When he was a few metres behind Snape he raised his arm, aimed at him and threw the stinkbomb. He had already dived behind the Ravenclaw table before it landed in Snape's cereals.

Snape’s screech echoed through the Great Hall and everyone fell silent. He jumped up from his seat and started swearing. Everyone else at the Slytherin table was etching away from him, trying to escape the unpleasant smell. Sirius, still hidden behind the Ravenclaw table, surpressed a snigger and crept forwards, back to the Gryffindors. But suddenly a figure loomed in front of him. He raised his head and swallowed. It was Professor McGonagall.

“Mr Black, what is the meaning of this?” she said sternly, tapping her foot impatiently.

He didn’t know what to say. There was no escaping McGonagall’s wrath once she had discovered someone breaking the rules. “I was just … I wanted … well, you know …” It was no use. She grabbed his sleeve and pulled him to his feet.

“Detention, Mr Black, today, eight o’clock, my office. You already know the procedure, I trust.” He only nodded. “And of course ten points from Gryffindor as well. You may continue your breakfast now.” And she walked away.

Sirius sat glumly down at the Gryffindor table. “Why did Evans have to tell her? It was just a bit of fun with old Snivellus. I didn’t hurt him or anything, did I?”

“No, he just smells better now,” Prongs replied, grinning.

I don't know yet when I'll be able to post the next snippet. Maybe tomorrow, but if I don't find the time you'll have to wait until Thursday, as I'm going on holiday for a few days.
