Default Snippets of a Black Life - Sa13+
Grim Lover

Hello everyone! This is the first time I'm trying to write fanfiction and of course it has to be about my favourite character, Sirius Black.

It is a series of 20 short stories about his life (all about the same length), sorted chronologically. I do hope you'll enjoy and leave a nice comment.

PART 1 - Meeting

The scarlet Hogwarts Express was standing ready on Platform nine and three quarters, as it does every year on September 1, at 11 o’clock. Most compartments were already filled with students. They were saying good-bye to their parents and waving out of the windows. On the platform itself the mothers were holding their tissues teary eyed, while the fathers gave their children rules how to behave at Hogwarts. The first-years were hesitant to board the train, not wanting to leave their parents for a whole year.

At least most first-years didn’t want to leave.

In the last compartment an eleven year-old was sitting all alone by himself. He couldn’t wait to get away from home. His parents didn’t only favour his little brother, but they also liked to insult him and lock him in his room without food for a day, sometimes even two. This boy was sitting all alone in his compartment, reading today’s newspaper. Or at least he was pretending to, because no boys his age actually read the newspaper.

The boy, known as Sirius Black, sighed, folded his paper and looked out of the window. How he wished someone would come and sit on the seat opposite him, someone to talk to and have fun with. But he knew that no one would want to be with him. After all he was a Black, a member of one of the darkest families. All pureblooded wizards knew that they were an unpleasant bunch of people and all muggleborn students were warned every year not to approach people like him.

The engine started and the train slowly began to pull out of the station. The parents on the platform waved their final good-byes and little siblings ran along the train, but they fell back quickly as the Hogwarts Express gathered speed. Houses whizzed past and soon they were leaving London.

Suddenly the compartment door was opened and a boy his age stood in front of him. His dark hair stood off at odd angles, defying gravity, and he pushed his glasses up his nose before speaking. “Hi,“ he said a little breathlessly. “Would you mind me sitting here?“

Sirius shook his head. The other sat down and smiled at him. He extended his hand. “By the way, I'm James, James Potter. Nice to meet you. And you are …?” He trailed off.

“Sirius Black,” Sirius grumbled, ignoring the offered hand, unfolding his newspaper and hiding behind it.

James didn’t reply for a few moments. Then he blurted out, “So, is your family as dark as everyone says? At least your hair’s dark, but you don’t look like you’d curse me on the spot.”

Sirius looked up, surprised. Nobody had ever talked to him like that. So outright. “I don’t? But I love hexing annoying people like you.”

“I guess you don’t even know a proper spell yet, right?” James said, laughing. “My parents always say that your family just likes to boast. You know, with being pureblooded and rich and all that stuff.”

“I see that you don’t like my family,” Sirius stated, putting his paper down again. A small smile graced his lips. “That makes one thing we have in common.”

The question is: is to have had and lost better than it not happening at all?
