Underworld star Michael Sheen is battling it out with Kenneth Branagh for Best Theatre Actor at this year's Laurence Olivier Awards.

The ex-partner of Kate Beckinsale and the star of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets also starred in Caligula at London's Donmar Warehouse and Edmond at the National Theatre respectively last year to great critical acclaim.

Gosford Park star Helen Mirren (which also starred Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban's Michael Gambon) and fellow Brit Kristin Scott Thomas are up for Best Actress accolades at the February ceremony, set to be hosted at the London Hilton hotel.
