Firey chapter...

“Making more Quidditch plans?” I inquired with a dismal voice, looking over his shoulder. I sat down beside him on the sofa.

Without looking up (just like Leanne, I realized) he nodded.

“Leanne and I just had a fight,” I stated, hoping that he’d express some sympathy and give me advice like he usually did.

“Oh,” Oliver mumbled absent-mindedly. His writing became even faster.

“That’s it? ‘Oh’?” I asked, crossing my arms across my chest. My face twisted into a slight scowl. I’d expected him to be a bit more attentive. Even just a warm hug would be nice.

“Well, fine. I’m sorry,” Oliver replied shortly, still scribbling like mad. “And if you’d excuse me, I’m doing something really urgent right now for the team.” A hint of annoyance edged his voice.

“That’s what you’ve said for the past few weeks!” I burst out. Why was everyone in such an arguing mood today? My body stiffened. Or is it just me who is in the arguing mood?

“You’ve been distracting me, that’s why!” he retorted, looking more frustrated. “Can’t you see? I’ve already told you: I’m too busy!”

Huffing, I glared at him. “Are you too busy just to talk to me for a bit? I’m clearly a hindrance now, aren’t I?”

At last Oliver turned his head to me and slammed down his quill. I wished that he hadn’t, though. A glower blanketed his face. “Yes, right now you are. It’s not like you’ve been helping me whatsoever with this.”

My jaw dropped open. “Fine. Well, if Quidditch is so important to you that you won’t even pay me any attention, then maybe we shouldn’t be in a relationship! Clearly, you don’t prize it much any more, do you?”

Oliver was silent for a while. “Grace, could you please just leave? We can talk it over later. For the last time, I’m busy, okay? I’ll be busy for a while with Quidditch because the match is coming soon, and we need to win the cup! There’s nothing more important than that!” As he spoke his voice grew louder.

The heat in the room rose. Soon we were yelling about every petty thing under the sun. It was a miracle that no one heard us or came in to inspect what damage we were doing.

Finally, I made a move and jumped up from the couch. “Sorry, then,” I replied angrily. “I’ll go and leave you to your precious Quidditch plans.” Turning my heel, I marched back up the stairs, feeling extremely aggravated.

“Thank you!” Oliver shouted up the stairs cynically. I knew that he was rolling his eyes, muttering, and placing his quill on the paper to write once more.

As I slammed the door, I threw myself onto the bed and cried. Thankfully no one was in the dorm. How was it that I managed to conjure two arguments in one hour with two of the most important people in my life? I criticized myself for being so immature; I really couldn’t help it. But I also criticized how Oliver and Leanne acted towards me. It was like they were pushing me away. At that moment, everything and everyone seemed to be against me. When the other girls entered our dorm for bedtime, I was still sobbing. The thing was, I no longer cared if they saw my distress.
