After everything with Malfoy calmed down, and the school was back to normal, Dementors showed up at the school. This did not please Professor Dumbledore at all. He went directly to the Minisrty of Magic to see what was going on. They told Dumbledore that another prisoner had escaped from Azkaban, so the Dementors were sent to Hogwarts as a percaution. Dumbledore was not happy about this, he demanded that they be removed from the school grounds. Before this could be done, some students were attacked by them.
Ron, Harry, Hermione and Neville were relaxing outside under the trees near the lake, when all of the sudden everything when cold, and very quiet. Harry started hearing his mother being murdered. The dementors caught them off gaurd, and Harry, the only one there to ever preform a full Patronus, passed out! Neville, who saw the Dementors coming, was too shocked to say anything, but got up and ran. Ron, Hermione and Harry just looked at him, then they felt the cold. Since Neville had ran, he was the only one who was still awake. Just as a Dementor was about to kiss Harry, Neville shouted out,
'EXPECTO PATRONUM' producing a full Patronus. This was Neville's first time producing more than a little whisp of silver. He just stood there in shock as a silvery elephant went charging towards the dementors.
'Gulping gargoyles, I've never done that before!' said Neville, very pleases with himself. Just then Dumbledore came rushing up to Neville.
'What just happened here?' as Neville explained, Dumbledore grew very angry. He went staright back to the Ministry demanding to know what was going to be done about this, but not before going to Hermione, Ron and Harry. It turns out that becuase Neville in such a state of shock, and also, was very, very angry, he was able tp preform the perfect Patronus to save Harry's life.
Dumbledore found out that the Dementors let that prisoner out, as an excuse to get into Hogwarts, and close to Harry.
