On second thought, there is something new. Completely slipped my mind.
The Political Dance
I smile as you bow
So formal, full of grace
Your back extends down low
Eyes fixed on my face.
You know I can't refuse
Giving up your stance
Unwilling, I accept
And so begins the dance.
You step here
I step there
Arm 'round my waist
Distance me with care.
Complicated moves
Done so many times
Becoming second-nature
Uncoordinated rhymes.
Our bodies held so stiff
Unromantic hating glares
Painful tight are grips
But we're too stubborn to care.
Swirling, twisting, flipping
A silent, unsaid fight
Battling on a dance floor
Moving in and out of light.
I wonder who you think
We're really gonna fool
Surely they all notice
Our moves are icy cool.
It's always the same dance
All ordered and in synch
And yet no one seems to notice
Our anger reaching the brink.
The music quiets
You bow me away
The audience is clapping
Just like yesterday.
I smile at you coldly
Your eyes like frozen suns
We're safe until next time
And for now the dance is done. Politics, and how people who don't really like each other are forced to ally and make peace, and how they have to keep it all a secret... Please review.
