But there's so much I regret
I'm trying to not forget you
But I wish we'd never met.

My good friend recently died. Need I say anything else?

You would’ve been a writer
Just like you wanted to be
Words would have filled pages
You always did for me.

Maybe
You would’ve stayed in Austin
For all you loved small towns
Cities seemed to suit you
You like to get around.

Maybe
You would’ve gone to prom
Though you’d never want a guy
You would have been so beautiful
Happiness sparkling in your eyes.

Maybe
You would’ve been shot
And died a bit later
What would you have done
Would this pain be greater?

You’re there then you’re not

You tell me the rewards you got
Is it worth all the shots?

You run and run and run
In a race not yet begun
I’m still holding the starting gun.

When did I fall behind
Now it’s not an illusion of mind
You left before the flag could unwind.

Rushing, racing for your goal
All of the victories that you stole
The farther you get, the deeper your hole.

You pop up here and there
