Al;right. This is it. The end. But not the last chapter. Remember that for tomorrow.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~ -'It looks like my powers are kicking in.' she thought. Thanks to them, it blocked out all the pain of the spell, but she felt something none the less. She fought the urge to laugh as a faint tickling sensation coursed through her body. As Harry watched his sister suffer and scream in fake pain, he lowered his wand. The spell canceled out, and Harry fell to the ground. 'So Potter, I see you're becoming weak. All the easier.' Voldemort raised his wand, and yelled out a spell of his own. 'AVADA KADAVRA!' 'NOOOO!' someone yelled. Kathy thought it was herself, but she was to busy running to Harry to know who it really was. Until she saw Hermione jump in front of Harry. The spell hit her instead, and she fell at Harry's knees. He picked up his friend, and held her close. Kathy felt a tear run down her cheek as Harry looked up, fire in his eyes, at Voldemort. The Dark Lord laughed cruelly as Harry handed Hermione to Ron, and stepped forward. Voldemort did the same. They walked until they were 3 steps apart. They lifted their wands in front of their faces, and bowed, Harry's a bit stiff. They straitened themselves, turned, and walked about 20 paces in the opposite direction. They seemed to strike some sort of weird pose, and Kathy hardly had any time to wonder about it, before they both yelled out the same spell. 'AVADA KADAVRA!' Kathy ran in-between them, and felt the bright green light absorb her, trap her. She felt like a thousand knives were tearing at her skin, and she screamed. The light vanished as quickly as it came, and Kathy landed in a heap in a large snow bank. Yet she was not dead. She looked to her 'master', and tore off the Death Eater's mask. 'Avada Kadavra.' she muttered, and aimed for Voldemort. Coming from her, the spell turned out to be 10 times more powerful, and Voldemort was, once and for all, dead and gone. Then she turned to Peter as the Dark Lord's robes disappeared. 'I don't have to work for you any more.' she whispered with all the might she had. 'You're finished.' 'Stop!' Peter shouted, a flicker of fear to his voice. 'If you kill me, you die.' 'I know. But my friends will be safe, and I'd rather die then betray my friends.' She pointed her wand at Pettigrew, and, before he could change and escape, whispered, 'Avada Kadavra.' The spell reached him at last, and he died. 'Ahh!' Kathy felt a pain in her stomach, and she clutched her gut, sinking to the ground. 'Kathy!' Harry yelled. He ran over, quickly followed by Ron, carrying Hermione, and Draco. 'Give me - Hermione.' Kathy groaned, gritting her teeth in pain. It moved from her stomach to just above her ribs, and she knew she didn't have long. They laid Hermione down in front of her, and she placed her hand on Hermione's heart. A faint glow appeared around their friend, and slowly, she lifted into the air. Hermione suddenly started breathing. Kathy had brought her to life. 'Kathy?' Hermione asked softly as she lowered to the snow-covered ground. 'What happened?' 'I brought you back Hermione.' Kathy whispered. The pain became more intense, and she felt a pinch in her heart. 'You have my powers now. I gave them to you.' She flinched one last time, and fell silent as her head hit the snow. 'Kathy.' Harry gasped. He pulled her onto his lap and held her close as the snowflakes fell onto her pale face, but didn't melt. He cried softly as he held onto his sister, almost for dear life, as she was his. He didn't notice the piece of parchment sticking out of Kathy's robe until Hermione pulled it out and read it aloud. 'Dearest Harry, Ron, Hermione, Draco, and all my other closest friends, I have done a terrible thing, and I cannot explain in words enough about how I am ashamed. When Peter brought me back, he put a spell on me so that if I ever betray him in any way I would die, slowly and painfully. In the past day, I have lied to you, Ron and Draco. All this time I have fought without command, and have memorized lines to say. The Dark Lord even entered my room and congratulated my acting. How his words tore me apart. Then I made up my mind. I would have died then to kill you, and now I am dead, and I hope you read this after my death, then before it, or the ending of this letter would sound confusing. Ron and Draco, I have loved both of you as my friends, and nothing more, even though I want to. Hermione, you have been my best friend, and I wouldn't have picked anyone else to spend my last nights with. Harry, you have been the best brother anyone could ever have, and wish I could spend the rest of my life in a safe world, knowing that I helped save it. Oh how I wish I could be with you all, but I can't be, and it's all because of the three strong words I said the day I returned, "I'll help you." Please forgive me. I was just so afraid to die again, I did the very opposite of what I really wanted. And what I wanted was to be with you all. I bet you're all confused. Well so am I. I'm not very good at writing letters, so I'm just going to end it. I love you all (except for Hermione, I'm not like that), and I know I'm going to miss you all, as you will miss me when I'm gone. With deepest love and affection, Kathryn Lily Potter.' Hermione's voice broke as she finished the letter. She handed it to Harry and tried not to show her tears. Harry reread the letter to himself as the snow thickened as it fell. It almost covered their robes and faces, and Ron finally found the strength to brush the snow from Hermione's face. She looked up at him with her tear flowing eyes. 'Oh Ron.' she said sadly, voice shaking. She threw her arms around his neck and cried. Then she turned to Draco and hugged him tightly. 'It's alright Hermione.' they reassured their friend. She sobbed, hugging them both as Harry read the letter over and over in his mind. Finally, he put it in his robe pocket and hugged his sister. 'Don't worry.' he whispered to her. 'We'll remember you.' He leaned forward and kissed Kathy on her forehead. Ron and Draco both kissed her on her lips, and Hermione hugged her friend. They knew the terror would be over forever, but Kathy was dead. And this time, she wouldn't be coming back. |
