He didn't acknowledge her thanks, and simply went straight into it. "Tarot cards aren't inherently magical." Most tools of divination aren't, unless they've been charmed. You don't need to cast a spell for it to happen, either. The fact that it's such a strange, fringe sect of magic...he wanted to understand more about it. "You're not very familiar with magic." Not a question, a statement. It took her by surprise, his comment about the tarot cards. Yes, she had wondered about them only a moment earlier, but she didn't put the two-and-two together, so his comment on them seemed quite random.
As for his other statement....Was that a bad thing? Was that something she shouldn't share? Valerie had no idea how many others on this train were as clueless about magic as she had been. That all these people had magic powers and were living amongst her all along....
She simply shook her head.
