She managed the smallest of smiles through her nerves as she dragged her trunk into the compartment, obliviously blocking the door of any more newcomers. "thankyou," she said as she sat down.
She watched the boy for another moment, then pulled out her book, realizing he wasn't going to start conversation. That was...okay. They didn't have to become fast friends or anything. She was just happy to have found a seat. Part of the reason Maddox wished he had quiet and calm students in his compartment was because their minds were usually also pretty quiet, an important thing for him as a Legilimens. Maybe is was just because of her nervousness at the moment, but Maddox was catching most of what she was thinking. He needed more practice closing off his mind, but he was getting there.
He didn't acknowledge her thanks, and simply went straight into it. "Tarot cards aren't inherently magical." Most tools of divination aren't, unless they've been charmed. Muggles can even use them and be accurate half the time. There was something about divination that Maddox was curious about, the way that the magic isn't inherent to the item. You don't need to cast a spell for it to happen, either. The fact that it's such a strange, fringe sect of magic...he wanted to understand more about it. "You're not very familiar with magic." Not a question, a statement. |
