Caledon Roth The Leaky Cauldron | Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll Norman hadn’t been there long when he heard footsteps approaching. He turned away from the cocoa bar, smiling slightly at his colleague and co-host (Dhruv). “Too right you are,” he replied, nodding in agreement. “I’m sure they’ll enjoy what we have planned.” He watched the two magically-guided trees move into their places. Was that the last of the trees? Before he had time to ask, people started to arrive. "Good afternoon, Miss Snakebark. Same to you, Mr. Grunt,” he greeted the first two arrivals, nodding politely to each in turn. Another polite nod and slight smile followed for Ean. “Hello, Ean. Thanks for coming!” Hopefully the healer’s skills wouldn’t be required for this little activity, but one never knew!
Atreyu-Rehman and Paton each received a small smile in greeting upon their arrival. “Hello, Mr. Atreyu-Rehman and Miss Paton.” He nodded, making a mental note to expect Hadliegh’s arrival. “Of course, we’ll be glad to have ehr here.” An extra hand was always much appreciated! Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Masters slip in and nodded in greeting. “Hello, Miss Masters.” The two house elves (Argyle and Schmoop) likewise got nods of acknowledgement, but he didn’t speak so as not to disturb their work.
Norman stood to one side, yielding the floor to Dhruv for their spell demonstration. His bluish-green eyes scanned the hall, watching the students practice. So far, it looked like everyone was off to a great start, though he refrained from commenting for now. Ah, there was Hadliegh! “Thanks for coming, Hady,” he greeted. “You can help us keep the students on the right track with their incantations and wand movements, especially when we get to the actual spell-casting.
After allowing a few minutes for the students to practice the incantation and wand movements for the Everlasting Snow Charm, Norman stepped up to the dais. “Thank you for that demonstration, Professor Khanna,” he said before addressing the group as a whole, “Quite a useful spell to know, especially for the next part of our activity! Once you’ve mastered the Everlasting Snow Charm, you can use the snow it creates to transfigure your own Christmas ornaments using the spell Crystallus Decus.”
With a flick of his wand, the spell information appeared on the board underneath the previous spell. “To cast, visualize how you want your ornament to look - and don’t forget to include a way to hang it on the tree! Move your wand in a circle over your target, and say the incantation: Cry-stal-lus dec-us.”
He used a small patch of snow on the tree closest to the dais to demonstrate. “Cry-stal-lus dec-us,” he cast, making a circular motion with his wand. In an instant, the snow transformed, and a silvery star ornament hung on the branch where the snow had been. “Take a few minutes to practice the incantation and wand movement for Crystallus Decus separately. When we move on again, we’ll be using both of the spells you’ve learned today to decorate the trees.” Quote: Crystallus Decus Use: turns snow into ice ornaments
Incantation: Cry-stal-lus dec-us Wand movement: circle over target Important note: Be sure to visualize a way to hang your ornament!
Sydney had mixed feelings about Christmas. She liked the gifts and some of the traditional foods, but the rest of the holiday was entirely too cutesy for her tastes. She was here for one reason: sheer absolute boredom. Maybe she’d learn something useful, or if all else failed, find a way to liven up the cutesy Christmasy atmosphere with a little chaos.
She arrived wearing a beanie with red and black deer ears, which moved up and down with a squeeze of the dangling pom poms. See, she made an effort to be festive. She greeted the professors and students alike with a polite nod and helped herself to a mug of hot cocoa: dark chocolate with a bit of cinnamon. She joined the other students at the table, watching the spell demonstration intently. “Pur-PET-you-Ah Nee-VIS,” she repeated under her breath. “Perpetua Nivis. Perpetua Nivis…”
She followed the incantation practice by making the Z-shaped movement with her wand a few times. Did that mean she was allowed to actually try the spell now? No? Apparently not, as they were moving on to another spell demonstration.
