Caledon Roth The Leaky Cauldron | attempting to catch up Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll SPOILER!!: so much catchup!
Sydney eyed the box with a mildly intrigued expression as Professor Feirgrund began the lesson. A spell similar to the Box-Blasting Spell meant to be used on one’s surroundings? That could be fun, especially if there was any blasting involved. She wondered what could be inside the box that they’d have to carry around. Hopefully nothing cumbersome, like a pile of stones or something!
She didn’t have much time to dwell on her curiosity before the professor asked a question. She thought for a minute. It wasn’t often that she lost things. She was pretty good at keeping track of her belongings. Her youngest sister, on the other hand… Darcey was always asking her to find things. Usually she asked her mums to summon it… or she’d do it herself if she knew how to cast a Summoning Charm and was allowed to do magic outside school. If a Summoning Charm wasn’t available, she usually approached the situation with a strategic retrace of her steps, but that answer had already been given. There was no reason to repeat it, so she kept quiet for now.
A charm for lost objects? Now that could be useful, even if it didn’t involve blasting anything! Sydney listened attentively, copying down information on the board. Wasting no time, she practiced making the triangle shape with her wand, starting at the top. After a few repetitions, she shifted her wand from her right hand to her left and practiced the movement a few more times.
The incantation was a bit harder for her. “Oh- BEEK -” she began. No, that wasn’t it! “Oh-Bee-Ek-Tum Reh-VEH-lee-oh,,,” There, that was better! “Oh-Bee-Ek-Tum Reh-VEH-lee-oh, Oh-Bee-Ek-Tum reh-VEH-lee-oh, Obiectum Revelio…” Okay, that was enough of that!
Feeling confident at last with the incantation, Sydney decided it was time to practice for real. Shifting her wand back to her right hand, she made the triangle shape and cast, “Obiectum Revelio!” A very faint white trail appeared, fading only a moment after she finished casting. That was not bad for a first try, she supposed, but she could do better. “Obiectum Revelio,” she cast again, this time producing a stronger white trail.
Sydney refocused her attention on Professor Ferigrund as he gave the instructions for the next activity. Lost objects? That could be interesting, depending on the objects in question… and if it was something completely useless, she could always give it to one of her sisters. She retrieved a pouch and looked at the photo inside. A furby… hmm, she supposed it could be worse. While she didn’t love the bright colors, there was something endearingly creepy about its eyes. Maybe she could rewire or magic it to make spooky sounds, one she found it, of course!
The blonde read the clue on the back of the photo. Beneath a dirt pile? That could be practically anywhere! She thought for a moment, trying to determine the best search strategy. The garden seemed the most likely place to find dirt piles. She’d start there. Wand in hand, she beelined for the garden and the nearest dirt pile. “Obiectum Revelio!” she cast, making the triangle-shaped wand movement. A faint triangle shape appeared, then faded almost instantly. Did she cast incorrectly, or was the furby under some other dirt pile?
Just in case, she cast again. “Obiectum Revelio!” The result was the same as the first time. Okay, so the furby was most likely not in this particular dirt pile.
She spotted another dirt pile at the other end of the garden. “Obiectum Revelio,” she cast again, aiming her wand in that direction as she made the triangle shape. She waited with baited breath as another white trail appeared, and… The triangle took on a shape that matched the toy in the photograph. Finally, she found the right pile!
Sydney beelined for the second dirt pile, digging as fast as she could. She saw an ear, then a flash of pink fur, and - there it was! She lifted the toy, brushing off the dirt while it chattered all the while. Pink, chatty, and electronic… that reminded her of something!
