Anya is the eldest daughter of Rafael and Angela Gonzales, two Filipino immigrants who decided to move to Europe after getting married and eventually settled in Barcelona, Spain. A year after her birth, she gained a younger sister named Tanya. Her parents, both deeply involved with the natural sciences, raised their daughters to put knowledge above all things and to value education—and both Anya and Tanya did. Anya grew to be interested in astronomy, while Tanya fell in love with archaeology and geology. A few years later, the twins, Paolo and Martin, joined the family. On her eleventh birthday, her family was told that Anya was a witch which explained why a lot of strange things happened to and around her during her childhood years. She then attended Académie de Magie Beauxbâtons under the banner of Ombrelune. After her seventh year, Anya interned at the UK Space Agency during the summer while preparing to move into her flat in Ambleside to start her university life. She attended wizarding university following her graduation from Beauxbatons, but decided to drop out after two years when she realized that the academic life just didn't seem like her cup of tea.
