"I haven't either," she nodded. "Though...just because you've never seen something somewhere doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't exist." A sentiment that had become an intimate of mantra for the sixteen year old recently and, almost, had her reconsidering going home for the holidays. Complicated and icky feelings that she attested to being a misunderstanding of tone and intention from ink and parchment. Such thoughts caused her to fall uncharacteristically quiet for an extended moment as her eyes shifted away from gazing up at Ezra to out over the lake. "I'm not sure what made me think of them just now...maybe I came across them in a bit of reading or maybe I..." she murmured to break the silence that had settled over the peaceful (but unintentionally awkward?) scene. "Hey...Ezra?" she said to interrupt her previous thought and swing her head back around to look at him again with a focused gazed with relaxed doe eyes and a slightly straightened posture. "...what...what is your earliest memory?"
Slowly he relaxed again, now that there seemed less chance of her careening off the dock. He glanced at her, just to make sure, before his eyes turned to scan the lake again.

"That's true," Ezra agreed. Those fish certainly could be out in the lake somewhere. He hadn't explored every inch of the lake, after all, so there were probably lots of creatures in there that he didn't know were there, even if there were a number of species they did know about, like grindylows and merpeople and the giant squid.

Lost in that thought for a moment, he hardly noticed the silence until she spoke again, her voice suddenly quieter. He looked over at her as she trailed off and then seemed to interrupt herself with another question, his eyes meeting hers.

The subject change was another he didn't expect, but that wasn't unusual when talking with Anna. This did seem...a little different than usual though. Or perhaps that was just his imagination?

Regardless, a thoughtful look crossed his face as he considered the question. His earliest memory? "I think... Maybe the time when I was chased by a goose? I think I was around three or four." He wasn't sure if that was actually his earliest memory, but it was the one that came to mind first. "Why? What's yours?"
