From that point forward she would purposely make wrong moves just to watch the chess pieces go at it with each other. A bit dark for the youngling, but it was fun.
Lost in thought once again, Etta sighed and stared at her gameboard. What was she upset about, really? Was the seasonal changes literally and figuratively getting to her? Being in the dungeons did not help with her blues, but at the same time she didn’t feel like going outside. Maybe for food, but she wasn’t feeling her best.
Hearing the whisper from across the table, Etta’s lips formed a smile as she looked up. ”My alter-ego, I’m afraid.” She teased, softly giggling. ”I’m not very good at chess.” She chuckled. ”Are you?” Etta smiled at Drake. Henrietta was fond of Drake, he was a very nice boy and he had a calm aura that made her feel at ease and comfortable. She very much considered him a good friend. Having approached quietly, it did give Drake some time to observe the gameplay. Which... he wasn't sure if it was because he didn't really know the rules of the game, or if he just was not a natural strategist - but it all seemed random and like the movements of the pieces didn't make much sense to him. But it was certainly entertaining when they entered each other's spaces and then smashed each other to smithereens. But they led him to wondering... was there a spell to make the pieces revert to their usual state again? Or was chess just the most expensive game to exist because you had to buy a new set every time?
That certainly would have been silly.
When he had broken the silence and Etta looked up at him, Drake returned her smile with a small laugh. "If it's your alter-ego, aren't you technically still winning?" Which would have meant she was good at chess! At the question though of his own skill, the second year's head quickly shook in a no - his hair bouncing from side to side as he did so. "I'm terrible at it. It takes too long and I get bored. Also, why does every piece move differently? This game was made to set us up for failure." In his own opinion.
Which speaking of, had he known how she saw him he would have been tickled! He liked Etta a lot too - felt a kindred spirit with her own shyness that often mirrored his. And of course she was also nice, even if her best friend intimidated him to no end. At least... he thought she and Sloane were best friends!
